Questions about my room request

We're staying at BWV in July in a 1BR standard view (we arrive July 13th), and I requested to be on the top floor, across from the bus stop. This location was recommended on the boards so we can see some of the Epcot fireworks from our room.

So...on our last trip (before becoming DVC members), we stayed at Pop Century and I learned on the boards to request the 50s section overlooking the lake, top floor, in order to see some fireworks from our room. When we arrived (it was 11:30AM), there was a room available immediately but on the 2nd floor. We took the room and we were able to see some nice fireworks every night (older son loved this and we got it all on video!!).

If there is a villa available in the location across from the bus stop at an earlier time than 4PM, should we just take it and not wait for a higher floor? Will we still be able to see some of the fireworks from Epcot on a lower floor? I would prefer not to be on the 1st floor though...but I know that requests are only requests and we still may end up on the 1st floor, and also in an entirely different area than requested.

Also, is it better to check in when we get there or to do the online check-in beforehand? Which one would make it more likely we would get at least one of our requests?

And last...if we don't get the location we requested, where is to best place at the hotel to go so we can view some of the fireworks, without having to go into Epcot?

I know that after traveling all day I want to check into my room if it's available. Since you don't know what you'll get if you wait, why wait if you don't have to?
From what I've read here, it seems hardly anyone gets their requests at BWV.

Not all of the rooms across from the bus stop have a view of the fireworks. There are some trees that block the view from some rooms, so even an upper floor across from the bus stop doesn't guarantee a view of the fireworks.

Keep in mind that you are so close to EPCOT at the BWV, that you only have to walk to the lobby and down to the Boardwalk to get a pretty good view. Not quite as convenient as from your balcony, but still a very viable option. :)

You can also just go out the door next to the pond (a convenient way to get to the bus stop) and see them by looking over the BWI wing.

You usually don't get much of a choice at check in (if any) at the BWV anyway - it's been my experience that they pretty much pre-assign everything so the chances of being offered a room that is ready are quite small, IMO.
