Questions about my first DVC stay...

What do I need to pack for my DVC stay (at SSR), that I didn't need when I stayed at a regular resort? We have just bought into the DVC and I'm not sure what 'extra' things I'll need to pack, if any.

We will be cooking in our room quite a bit also, so I'm also looking for quick and easy lunch/dinner ideas.

What type of things are at SSR that I don't want to miss. In the past we've spent most of our time at the parks, but I want to be certain to enjoy the amenities of the resort also.

Does anyone have pictures of the bathrooms at SSR? I know this is a silly question, but for some reason I'm intrigued. Maybe b/c it's the one room that I can't seem to find pictures of!

Are you in a studio or 1 or 2 bedroom. Since you'll be cooking I assume you are in a 1 or 2 bedroom.

The 1 & 2 bdrms have a washer/dryer so You will need to purchase laundry det. You could buy it at the resort for $1 per box ) Also, if you use bounce you'll need to bring that too.

Your room has all the dishes & silverware, glasses & pots and pans you will need. They supply dishwashing soap both palmolive and soap for the dishwasher, paper towels, a sponge, 1 packet of laundry det (good for one wash only). They have a toaster, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, sink and refridrator (full size) and stove/oven.

If you are driving I would suggest you pick up anything you need once you get to Disney. If you are flying, you should use a grocery delivery service such as wegoshop.com or garden grocer.com. Garden grocer has a list to pick from and I'm ordering laundry det, tissue (I have severe allergies and only like Kleenex.) In addition, I order breakfast foods and snacks, as well as water, soda and milk.

You may also want to purchase bleach to clean the whirlpool tubs. Other treads have mentioned that you really need to do this due to the jets and the stagnant water left behind.

My thoughts exactly! I have a whirlpool tub at home and I never use it b/c it's not worth it to clean it out. No way that I'll be wanting to mess with it at my new 'home' either! Now, if only I could find some neat freak going the week before me and then request their room!

I bought a 'free sample' of an oxyball and am using it now at the BC-works great!
As for food, what I do is make a menu-and try and use the ingredients on a couple of my meals-...I make this 'egg dish' that has sausage, bread, cheese, eggs in it-I'll plan on another breakfast using eggs-you need a dozen, so plan a couple of breakfasts using them. Peanut butter, on toast sandwiches, etc. If I think I'm going to make spaghetti, I'll bring some noodles from home if I have them-hate shopping on vacation, using just a tiny bit and then having to throw out. I'll also start saving small containers to be able to put things like a small amt of peanut butter in instead of bringing the entire jar from home. Hope that helps.

Don't forget the salt and pepper, condiments. If you can get away with bringing small portions in ziplock bags, go for it! Or you could snag a few extra packets at the parks. Also don't forget a small pack of just in case medicines. Cold/allergy medicines and sudafed for the ears that are to congested to pop. I had to go 4 of our 7 days with hearing in my left year only. Reaally annoying. Extra (softer) kleenex can be helpful too. We liked to put several bottles of water in the freezer the night before. We'd take a small (backpack) cooler bag to keep them in. Very handy when the lines are long.

We don't really pack all that differently now that we stay in DVC resorts instead of POR. The main things I can think of are a bar of soap and some shampoo (they only give you a starter supply at SSR) and I make baggies with pre-measured amounts of laundry detergent. I stuck those in my suitcase with some dryer sheets. Also, I won a tiny little salt and pepper container at a Tupperware party about five years ago. It's finally coming in handy. When we flew, we brought a bag full of non-perishable foods/snacks.

Can't remember what the non-DVC bathrooms are like, but the DVC bathroom sinks tend to be free standing type with little counter space. We purchased a canvase shoe holder that we hang on the bath door and store everything possible in it. Really helps keep the space neat and organized.

I think the best part of staying at DVC is you can pack less. I pack only about a 1/2 weeks worth of clothes for the 5 of us and do a few loads of laundry throughout the week.

We used www.wegoshop.com on our trip last month for groceries. We don't do a lot of cooking while in WDW. Our kids like bagels so we did alot of bagel sandwiches, chips, cereal. I wish we had ordered some frozed pizzas though.

You'll get a bottle of dishwashing liquid and a sponge. As well as either a small box or a single use pouch of dishwasher detergent.

Unlike the regular Disney resorts, you do not get a little bottle of lotion along with the shampoo and soap so I bring a little bottle along. It's handy to have for those times when you forgot to put on sunscreen somewhere and need to apply something soothing!

I like taking a container of Clorox wipes. Not only do I use them to clean up in the kitchen, but we have two little ones and they come in handy else where.

Gee, we have stayed at all the deluxes except the YC and all the moderates, but have only gotten lotion at GF. And then, all the little bottles were completely different.

We got lotion at both YC and AKL every time we stayed there. Those are the only non-DVC resorts we've been to so I just assumed they provided it at all the deluxe resorts. It's quite nice stuff, too -- it smells great and it feels soothing on sunburn. Fortunately I have my own little stash from our stays at YC and AKL so I just bring a bottle along on our DVC stays.

They have several rolls of toilet paper and paper towels. Bring a few extra garbage bags. They have a small Dawn and one or two sponges, plus a small box of Cascade or a couple small pouches of dishwasher soap. No dryer sheets, but one small box of Tide. Bring more if you are planning on doing laundry. Bring shampoo, conditioner,etc of your own.

There is a Publix and Winn Dixie very close to Disney's property, I prefer Publix, so we make a quick list of what we might eat (bagels, bread, frozen pizzas, beer) and pick it up there. We live close enough to drive, so I just raid my pantry before we leave. We usually eat out one meal while down there, we love those 1 or 2 br villas!!
