Hi everyone!

I'm fairly new here, as I just registered recently. I've been reading posts, however, for almost a year now.

My son, who is 10, has a MAW trip coming up on February 4th. I was just wondering if there is anything we should be sure to do while we're there. I know he's a bit old for some of the things at the village, but as far as the theme parks go, is there anything we shouldn't miss? I know that he really wants to eat at the Sci Fi Diner...Is it worth it? Also, he has agreed to let his little sister eat dinner at 1900 Park Fare. Is that place pretty good as well?

Although the trip is for 6 days, we will really only have 4 full days there, as we don't arrive until late in the afternoon on Sunday, and have to leave early on Friday. I know that there is NO way we can fit everything in, but I also want to make sure there is nothing that we miss.

Oh! The Pirate and Princess party at Magic Kingdom...Could someone let me know what it's like, if they go? I'm debating on trying to take the kids to that, but I'm not sure if it'll be worth it.

Thanks so much!!

My sons wish was 4 years ago so I know that there is new stuff at gktw but they do have fishing and mini golf and really cool pools. As far as disney when we went two years ago we took all the kids to 1900 park fair for my nieces 5th b-day.It was really cute and cindy and the prince was there and 2 of the mice and the fairy godmother!when we were done eating pater pan showed up in the hall so all the kids went out there to play with him.I would do it again for the girls. That was the only one we did so far,We are looking into more for our trip in Oct.good luck with all the planning and fitting everything in to your time.

My boys had their MAW trip in Nov of 05. There is a lot to do at the Village. They had evening events almost every night we were there with food and games and music. I wish we had more time to do things at GKTW. My boys especially enjoyed the Buzz ride at MK, seeing lots of characters, and the safari at AK. We also went to Islands of Adventure for the Spiderman breakfast. I bought them the Birnbaums Kids Guide to WDW and that helped them decide what they wanted to do. Have a magical trip!:wizard:

Make sure you take time to enjoy the Village. As the other posters mentioned, there are a lot of fun things to do there. We stayed in Florida a few extra days on our own so we could go a little slower and spend a day just chillin' at the Village.

How old is your son? That will help us let you know the "must do" list for you. :) I 2nd the vote for Breakfast with Spiderman at Islands of Adventure. We planned dd's wish trip so we would be down there for ds's 7th birthday. (We figured he'd been through a lot with his sister's cancer so he deserved something special, too.) We took him to that breakfast for his birthday. It was great - a lot of wonderful character interaction and really good food! The only other character meal we did was the Princess Breakfast at Epcot. I have friends who eat at Sci-Fi every time they go. They love it.

That's about all I have right now. You can read our trip report if you would like at http://www.deputyfamily.net/mickey/index2.htm. Just scroll down to April 29 to start the journey.

Sorry! I forgot to mention that my son is 10 years old. He was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis last Christmas, which has also caused chronic kidney disease. He spent most of 2006 on low dose chemo (Cytoxan), and had all the lovely effects from that (hair loss, low immune system, being sick afterwards). He can walk ok for the most part, but does seem to tire quickly. I think that we'll be renting a wheelchair just in case he needs it to get from one attraction to the next.

I hope that helps some! And thanks for all the good ideas so far.

:welcome: So glad you joined!!!

I don't have any input on GKTW, but we did go to the Sci Fi Drive in when we went last year and loved it!! My dh and I are big drive in fans and since there are none left in our area it was pretty nostalgic for us. The kids thought it was great too. There are pretty much sandwiches, burgers, fries and milkshakes which we all had and were super yummy!!! I have to say, it was one of my favorite dining experiences of the trip, and we had a lot!!

Have a great trip!!:goodvibes

I'm 23 now, but went to the SciFi the first time when I was about your son's age, I think...and loved it! It's unlike any other restaurant he's probably been to, the movie previews are silly but fun, as a kid I just loved it! If you have the time, I say stop by, even just for dessert or a snack! :cool1:

Trystan are you still around or did you leave for your trip ??? I hope your son is feeling ok and that you have an incredible time. I have one more idea if you around. (rbanville@charter.net)

I'm still around! :-) We leave on Saturday, and fly out on Sunday. We're getting sooo excited!!:cool1:

OK... I am really new at this!

First, I hope you enjoy your trip!

We are headed to Disney with MAW in March ( the first week) and are really looking forward to it! It sounds like it will be quite a vacation for our family. We haven't ever been on a REAL vacation other that visiting family out of state.

I can't wait to hear about your trip, Trystann!

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that your son is NOT too old for anything at GKTW! My DD's Wish trip was in November and she is 21! My son is 12 and both had a wonderful time at GKTW. Although GKTW allows those up to age 18, they made an exception in my DD's situation. It is a wonderful, loving village and they have kids of all ages staying there. So you will see older teens doing the same things the young ones are doing!

You'll have a wonderful time.

We are getting sooo excited! It's only two more days! Woohoo!! :cool1: We will drive to Albuquerque tomorrow, and fly into Orlando on Sunday.

I think that because we will be getting there kind of late on Sunday (about 2:45 or so), we're just going to spend time exploring the village. I know the kids want to ride on the carousel and train, and DS is dying to play with the motorized boats. They also want to swim, but I'm not sure if it'll be too cold.

We can't wait for our trip!!

Yea for you!!!! Only one more day!!! I hope you and you family have an absolutely wonderful trip to Disney and GKTW! I am anxious to hear about it! We are going in about a month and my DH thinks that I have lost my marbles! I can't stay off the Dis sites and out of the Disney books that I have gotten at the library!! You would think that I am the one making the wish!!! :) Enjoy your trip! Lynda

My DH thought I was nuts, too, for all the planning and research I did for our DD's wish trip last May. However, he is still thanking me for it because we were able to do so much more since I had a plan. So let him think you're nuts. Your obsession now will certainly pay off when you're there.
