Questions about how renting DVC points works?

I have two questions:

1) from looking around a bit, it looks like when you book with DVC you are not guaranteed a specific resort. So, if our dream is to stay somewhere at AKL with a savannah view, would this would be a poor option for us? (We only go during slow times if that makes a difference.)

2) It is my understanding that A DVC owner has pool hopping privileges, but if you rent points from a DVC owner, that privilege does not transfer. Is that correct?

Thanks!

When members book a DVC stay, they are booked in to a specific resort. And for AKV, a Savanna View is also a guaranteed booking category. As to AKV, DVC is currently expanding the resort and from now until 4/15/09 the animals may be removed from the Sunset Savanna. AKV is a beautiful resort.

This trip wouldn't be any time soon, maybe sometime in 2010. I am just dreaming! The only two places on site I am really interested in are AKL savannah view and the Poly. Trying to do a cost/benefit analysis, plus figure out what renting DVC points might actually cost.

To answer the second part of your question...DVC member perks do not transfer to a renter. Renters will likely get some of the minor perks, like dining discounts, as long as all point stays continue to print *DVC Member* on the room key. For major perks, like Annual Pass discounts, we must preset our actual memberhsip card, pool hopping is also a limited perk. Increasingly, we've been asked for our membership cards for dining discounts as well, it really depends upon the CM handling the transaction.

DVC members can use their points at the Polynesian, but there is a $95 booking fee, plus the points required are often higher than the points needed at a DVC resort.

Dining discounts are happily given with the room card that says DVC member.... have had issue w/CMs that are unfamiliar even with the membership card

What is pool hopping?
So if your not a member would you just show your room key and in most cases that would suffice?

DVC members staying on their points can use other pools at the resorts (except for the pools at YC/BC/BCV and AKL/AKV) except for time periods when it is not permitted (usually around holiday or other busy times) or when the pools are busy. This perk is not transferrable to non-members using the members points. Guests staying with the member are entitled to some perks.

The room ID may or may not suffice. If you can't produce a blue member ID, you may be refused the discount/perk/etc.
