I guess I am not really on these boards enough or haven't been a member long enough so I need to be educated. I bought into DVC at a HH tour and my Tour Guide made it sound like it is not a big deal about home resort. So we bought into HH and actually it is not that bad because we do go to HH often. The question I guess I have is I think my wife and I definately go to WDW more then HH. What are my cheapest options to get a Home Resort in WDW.(really doen't matter wear). We obviously can't afford a whole lot being that about a year ago we shelled out money for 225 points in HH. Thanks for helping out a rookie DVC member.

You may or may not need an additional home resort at WDW. We own at both HH and OKW. We are flexible with the size of our accomodations and it doesn't matter to us which WDW DVC resort we book. We were able to get summer reservations in 2002 at the 7 month mark and got our first date choices for all 3 WDW locations with no wait list. Now if you want to go during peak holiday seasons, you may need a home resort at WDW. But don't buy points if it's a hardship as it is possible to get a reservation at WDW at the 7 month mark plus there are tons of success stories on these boards about waitlisting.

If you decide you want to buy more points, you might want to look for a resale since the only WDW DVC resort being sold by Disney right now is BCV. If you want BWV, OKW or VWL, your best bet would be a resale.

Our OKW purchase was a resale through Jaki at www.atimeshare.com.

A resale is any purchase of DVC points not thru DVC directly. These are contracts sold by a member.

The Timeshare Store is the sponsor of this website and can help with the process, as can many other brokers.

You can purchase the sold out properties (OKW, BWV, VWL) in this fashion, as DVC has very limited availability of these properties for sale.

You can get some more information about resales by reading the FAQ at the top of the post listings on this page.

All aspects of a resale transaction are negotiable, including price, closing costs and maintenance fees. If you have any specific questions, please feel to ask them on this board!

Enjoy!

SJUGuy,

Not sure why you would want a WDW home resort if you are not paticular with which resort you would stay at.

Owning at HH, you could find a room at WDW in a DVC resort at the 7 month window at just about any time of the year if you are not paticular which resort you stay in. There are certain resort at certain times that are tough to get into at the 11 month window, ie... BWV at Christmas, Grand Villas at OKW.

We own at HH and have split our time between HH and other DVC resorts. During our 8 trips we have never had a problem making reservations for the time, resort & room size we requested. We just made ressies at BCV during Spring Break at the 7 month window and had no problem.

I just think you would lose a lot of money selling you HH points on the open market, then buying WDW resort points even if they were resales. Besides, HH has one of the lower maint. fees.

Far be it for me to talk someone out of a resale....but, in your case, it may not be necessary.

Are you having problems booking into Orlando yet? I own at HH and have never even stayed there. I always use Orlando, usually book studios and never book more than a couple of months in advance. However, I refuse to go when it is crowded.

Let us know if we can help further.

Kind regards,
Shontell

Hi! My family owns at Hilton Head. We are fairly new members but will spend our first DVC trip split between our home resort of Hilton Head (made at the 10 month mark) and OKW (made around the 6 month mark and having to waitlist for a couple of our days over Thanksgiving but they did come through).

I am not sure what the future will bring in how easy it will continue to be to book at the 7 month window on-site so for that reason, eventually, I would like some on-site points - but not now, we simply cannot afford it. But that's okay, we love Hilton Head and do plan to stay there most often. Also, we don't care which on-site property we get - they are all nice to me! We also tend to book our trips 8 to 6 months out so again, the home booking window becomes less important at that point. I hope things work out for you and your family!

I have only booked one trip to WDW and we had very few problems getting close to what we wanted. Recently people have been telling me how hard it is going to be getting into WDW when we want to go. Anyway I am glad all of you responded because I kinda like having my home resort in HH, because we absolutely love it there. Thanks for the input and making me feel better about my choice of Home Resort.
