Questions about changing ressies?

HERE'S THE FACTS:

Coming to WDW in July 05' for our family's very first trip. Booked a "Dreamaker" package with the travel agent at my local (so Cal) AAA office. Package includes rountrip airfair (American Airlines) LAX to MCO, ground trans via Mears from and to airport, UPH passes for length of stay, 7 nights at Pop Century in a "preferred room" in 60's bldg. Total price for Mrs. GG, the two "gangsters" (15 & 18) and myself...Approx $3,500 total for all 4 of us.

NOW THE QUESTIONS:

I keep hearing about these "discount codes." When they come out, can I take them to my AAA travel agent and have them applied or maybe upgrade, should a code come out, to a nicer resort for little or no extra cost?

Can they do this to an already booked "DreamMaker" (not MYW) package? How do these get applied to packages?

If so, by using a "code" for Pop, won't I have to relinquish my preferred room already "in hand?"

Since the package includes ground trans via Mears, if I choose to take advantage of the new "Magic Express" service, shouldn't I be entitled to some sort of a discount from the original package price?

While the handy hints here are great, the pessimistic side of me says to not mess around with the already bought and paid for package, as the more you mess with it, the greater the probability of error.

What are your thoughts on these questions?

I'm not sure how much I can offer because my rule is to no package as a package never saves money ...but you've already paid for yours? If so, I'm not sure what can be done - do you have trip/cancelation insurance? I'd read that very carefully.

Any discount code that comes out can be applied to a room only ressie, but you have a package and probably paying full rack rate. As for Mears and the new Express Service, I'd call the TA and ask if any new rule would apply and if so, if you'll recieve credit for the shuttle service.

Your preferred room only means a location - that you'll be somehere in the 60's section, not always closer to the food court than some other locations i.e. 50's or 70's. If you are at the far end of the 60's it would have been just as close to book a regular room.

Might be too late if you've paid in full. Unfortunately, TA's who are not Disney Specialists and do not book Disney exclusivly don't often know much about how the discounts work etc.

Maybe someone else will know more and reply! Sounds like you found DIS after you booked and were not able to do much research.

At least now you can read about POP, room request location etc and WDW in general on DIS and save in other ways once you're there. Good luck and have a wonderful trip!
