Questions about car rental after cruise and directions

We have always used a private car service before but are planning to use a rental car this time as we are heading to LEGOLAND after the cruise. Just wondering if it's better to use the shuttle or grab a cab to get to the car rental office and if taking the shuttle should we all go or is it better to have one person go and come back. How easy is it to get back in to the port area to pick up others?

Also, best route to LEGOLAND from the port?

We rented a car after our cruise last year. There were only 2 of us, with minimal baggage, but we both took the shuttle to the rental car place and headed out. If there's a lot of you, it may be best to have just one person take the shuttle. Some rental companies have a large contingent of renters trying to all catch the first shuttle out. We lucked out in that there were only 4 parties trying to catch the shuttle to our rental company.

Or, one of you can take a taxi, get the car and come back, the port is enroute from where the rental car companies are back to the highway out of the port area.

We rent a car before cruise and drop it off and take shuttle and we take the shuttle after the cruise back to the car company.
Going on the cruise, hubby drops us off at terminal.....leaving the cruise we all ride the bus back to the car lot.
We religiously use National.

DH usually leaves the ship earlier than us and takes the shuttle to the rental agency. He texts me to let me know his progress and we time our exit off the ship accordingly. Sometimes it takes a little longer than expected for us to get off the ship so he will stop somewhere and get a coffee on his way back to the port. We are a family of 5 and we just find it easier to not have to lug all the luggage on and off the shuttle and not have to all wait in line at the rental desk.
