Questions about buying resale....

We have been searching 3 different websites for a resale contract. We have a few questions:

1. Is it best to get in touch with one of the companies and have them actively looking for what you want? Are there tons of resales that don't even make it to their web pages?

2. What if you're working with a particular company (we're not at this time) but see a listing that another company has. Can your representative get it for you or do you have to choose from what they have?

3. How do people decide which of the resale companies to go with? I've been getting email updates from 3 different companies....is it just a matter of seeing a contract you like??

thanks for the info!!

Most resale agencies have a 'preferred' email list which means you'll receive latest listings via email before it is published on their website.

afaik you can have the company you are dealing with contact another about contract.

DH and I (as well as many who post here on the DIS) have purchased through the board sponsor, The Timeshare Store, and we have nothing but positives to say about their knowledge, professionalism and courtesy.

Best wishes :goodvibes

We have purchased from 3 different resale brokers, one more than the others, and have had a different experience from each one. I had a fourth broker that got rather upset because I asked them to contact a seller to verify some information, we never used them.

Not all of their fees and terms are the same so do your homework.

If you are looking for a high demand contract then you need to get on their notification list. If yo are looking for a bargain then no need since the best prices are on contract that have been around for a while.

Most brokers will handle open listing from another company.

Here is a set of listings that have some of the best prices, but I would use your own independant borker to represent you and who can get you the details on the contracts.

Hey bookwormde...

The link that you provided does have some great prices and selection. Do you know anything more about the "ads" posted there? Are they legit or just "phishing" expeditions? The reason that I ask, is that I found some prices that are much less than any of the ones listed on the main 3 ressale brokers websites. They also don't provide additional details like UY and if points are available. It kinds of makes me question if they are legit postings and makes me hesitant to request for more information regarding specific listings.

Thanks,

Evan

1) I invite you to contact The Timeshare Store, Inc.® and get in touch with an associate. If you don't see a current listing that interests you or that you would like to offer on then we can add you to our distribution list so when new listings become available you will be notified. At The Timeshare Store, Inc.® all of our listings make it to the website. Some only last a few minutes before going "sale pending" but they all go on the website. For example, you might be looking for 200 points at Saratoga Springs with an October use year and want a contract with 200 banked points from 2009. There might be 18 other clients looking for the same thing so we found it best to send the listings out to everyone at the same time. The email is sent to around 12,000 people and some people react very quick to the email.

2) At The Timeshare Store, Inc.® we don't want to become the middle man if you want to buy a listing from another company. It is best to contact them directly and they will be able to assist you. We represent our listings.

3) In my opinion assuming all the fees are the same with each company it is just a matter of finding the right contract. If you are searching for a 50 point contract at the Beach Club with a September use year and another company (besides The Timeshare Store, Inc.®) has the listing then I suggest calling them and getting it ASAP. As the buyer you need to do what is best for your needs. Of course, we wish we could help everyone but we do not obtain all the listings. :sad1:

Best of luck to you and we are open on the weekends until 6 if you want to contact someone this weekend.

They are mostly from what was GMAC (now fidelity) If someone askes DVC who to use that is who they recommend. My experiance is that they are not very user friendly (as you can see since they do not list the contract details), so since they are open listings most brokers can get information on them and make an offer.

I went through Carrie at A TIme Share Broker and who helped me pick up 210 2042 OKW points listed on the site for $45/pt so there are bargains out there

How do these bargains make it through ROFR? I had been told that the very low-priced contracts never made it through. Is that true, or are things changing?

I have seen on one of the resale boards what contracts are actually passing thru for as well as what is being purchased by Disney. I also know there are other factors - point left, not left and for what use year as well as who is paying the closing costs - that play into all of it, not just the price per point.

lmshaggard...

Any chance you can post the link/more details? I am looking into possibly purchasing 200-220 points at OKW in the next month or so and it sounds like your info might help me save a few extra dollars.

Thanks,

Evan
