Questions about Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain

My son should exceed the 40 inch height requirement by our next visit for these two rides. He already is a fan of roller coasters and water parks so I think he would enjoy riding both of these rides. My question is about the seating for the two rides.

Based on my memory, Splash Mountain has riders sit one behind another in the same car. If this is true I could put my arms around him during the drop. I wonder if this memory is accurate.

For the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, I can’t recall how the seating for this coaster is. I know the coaster doesn’t have any loops however I believe it has some fast turns. Is it possible for me to help brace his body so his head doesn’t get bounced off the sides (padded I’m sure) by sitting behind him or do the riders sit side by side in the car.

Thanks for the help.

Both rides are side by side rides at WDW. You might be thinking of Splash Mountain at Disneyland, there it is one behind the other.

Have fun!! :flower:

On our trip in June my 4yr old rode BTMR with my dh and they sat together in the car...dh was able to hold on to him while he also kind of looped his arm through the bar in front. My son LOVED it!!!! Was one of his favorite rides, crazy kid!!!!f

I don't know about Splash since we didn't do that this time but I do think they sit two in a seat.

Splash Mntn. has small seats, but at least 2 people would fit in one (DH and I ride together).

splash mountain, two people sit next to each other
big thunder, two people sit next to each other
but in space mountain you don't sit next to each other
so you might have been thinking of space mountain.

Neither BTR or SM should pose a problem for your son. They list them has high thrill but we've found them a bit on the mild side. If he likes roller coasters, he'll be fine on these rides. Have fun.

I believe both splash and big thunder have side by side seating in WDW, however, in DL Splash mountain has if (i remember) one in front of the other seating. Hope this clears things up.

All are side by side rides except splash mt. Our tip is we like to ride BTMRR in the back last seat is great. It is a wilder ride in the back so you may want to try it up front first to see if he likes it. We love to ride it at night. It is great during wishes. Also splash front seat of the car gets a little wet back does not. DD like the front I prefer the back.

Splash Mountain at Disneyland in CA:

And at MK in WDW:

Space is the opposite - side by side in CA and one in front of another at WDW (unless DL changed with the recent remodel - we were last there in 2003). Thunder Mtn is side by side in both.
