Lots of questions about the Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian.....

How is it and would you recommend it?

Is the Grand Tea at $25.50 per person worth it?

And, how does it work: Do they bring your food to the table and leave it? Or, do they come to the table with a selection and you pick a few items?

Thanks for any info.

My DD (13 at the time) & I had afternoon tea last summer & she keeps asking, "When can we go back?" We made an ADR for right when they opened & it was very quiet & peaceful & our server was quite friendly & informative. My DD was trying to pretend she was so sophisticated with her pinky extended, but she dropped the cup onto her saucer & made a huge clatter in such a quiet setting. She immediatly put her hand over her mouth, but our server was approaching right at that moment said so sweetly, "Don't worry honey, I do that all the time!" So it was very elegant, but not so stuffy that we felt uncomfortable. :goodvibes

As for the Grand Tea, I personally would not do it again, because it ended up being a little too much for me. I think next time I would order everything a la carte & get the tea, sandwiches (sticking with my favorites), scones (so tender & flaky...yum) & a glass of champagne.

Everything is brought to your table once you order, and if you did order the Grand Tea you would be given a pre-chosen selection of sandwiches (not a fan of the pear & gorganzola but I loved the chicken salad), pate, and onion tart (did not care too much for either one), then you will be brought a scone & rasberry tart (found the tart a bit dry), but if you decide on pastries, you do choose which ones you would like & I believe we were shown a sample of the pastries to decide from.

It really was a lovely way to have some quiet Mother/Daughter time away from DH & DS (athough they would be welcome too, we just preferred to ditch them ;) ) & we would definitely do it again some time! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info! :)

It does sound like something dh and I would like to do during our December trip. I guess I was worried it would not be enough food! :rotfl:

Hmmmmmmm just noticed..... pate and onion - I wouldn't like those either! Uh oh!

I think the price is worth it. We always make it our late lunch and leave with a full tummy.

My daughter and I just did this for the first time last month. We enjoyed it very much. We had the Buckingham Palace, I think around $20 per person. We both picked it because it included everything as the Grand except no glass of champagne, which I don't like or wanted anyway. As another poster said, you get tea sandwiches (5 I think), and then a scone and little tart and then you can pick strawberries or two pastries. Both of us picked the pastries and they came over with a tray of a bunch of different ones and we each picked two. Both my daughter and I want to do this again. It is a wonderful mother/daughter "thing". Hope this helps.

ENJOY!!

DH and I did this April 08 (tons of pics in my April link) and we both loved it! We both got the $25 dollar one but skipped the wine. It was alot of fun, very relaxing.

Thanks for the replies.

Is the English trifle a choice instead of the pastries or does it always come with the Grand Tea?

My 2 yo dd and I have gone to the GVTR twice this year and will be returning in November.

I always order the British Cheese Plate, Plate of Assorted Tea Sandwiches, and the Vanilla Rooibos tea for me and the Mrs. Potts Tea for her. This time I may add a desert to it.

The British Cheese Plate was enough for my dd, niece, sister and myself last time. My dd eats some of the fruit and I enjoy the cheese and crackers. We always have a bit leftover.

Also, I request NO seafood for both of us and they are good about that.

My hubby and I almost always make it over to the Gardenview Lounge for afternoon tea ... it's very relaxing and there is plenty of food, believe me!

Here's a link to a review I wrote from our last meal there, which was October 2007.

Hope it's helpful! :goodvibes

Afternoon Tea

Great review! Thanks so much for posting the link. :) :thumbsup2

My best friend and I had tea there in Feb. and loved it! We're planning on going again in Jan. :). We had the Buckingham as someone else mentioned and it was very nice. My friend has some food allergies and they were very accomodating to her and made her some alternate sandwiches :thumbsup2.

The Grand tea is so worth it. I did that and hubby did the prince edwards tea. They serve you at your table, all very formal (even though the atmosphere is very relaxed).

The treats were fantastic, our server even brought me a couple more of my favorites, hubby just laughed at me. (The time we went it was little onion tartlets and they were fantastic)
