how do you get a picture under your user name on the left hand side of your posts?

That picture's called an "avatar" and to get/change it, you go to your User Control Panel, then Edit Options, and it's at the very bottom of the page. You can either pick one from what they have or find one you like on the internet (but there are certain size requirements if you want to have your own).
