so we finally got our member number in the mail yesterday (super excited) and called today to make our first reservation (Dec. 20-26, split stay with 4 nights at SSR and two nights at AKV all in 1 BDR). We got all the way to the end and the MS person says we can't make the reservation because we have no points in our account (we bought resale and knew that was not possible). Once we knew the rooms were available, my wife immediately booked the plane tickets. The MS person put me on hold for awhile and investigated and found out our account was not fully created yet and therefore no points, but the letter clearly stated I could call to make reservations. So now we are stuck with plane tickets hoping that when we finally have the points in our account, that the rooms are still available.

I have to call MA tomorrow and find out when it will be done and ready for reservations. I am so irritated with this whole process right now, I am almost ready to turn around and sell it, especially if there are no rooms available once we can finally make a reservation.

Has this happened to anyone else, being a first time buyer with a member number and not being able to make a reservation? I can't recall every reading about it on the boards.

In the past, it has been a two-step process to add a new deed to an account. Step one is to create the account, step two is to populate the account with the points. People have reported it takes a day or two between the two steps.

Hopefully, that is what's happened in your case and you'll find the points are in your account tomorrow. Good luck.

DVC has issues and you are starting to experience them for yourself. As wdrl posted, account creation and point posting are 2 separate functions. Looks like the point posting is still sitting on someones desk.

Follow up with MA, if the mistake causes you to not get your desired reservations, contact Member Satisfaction @

Called MA this morning and spoke with a less than helpful person. She said since the points were for the Sept. 2013 UY we couldn't make a reservation until then even though we were traveling after that date. Not helpful and frankly a little rude. Twice I have had less than steller service from MA. So I hung up, did some reading on the boards to make sure I hadn't lost my mind about how the UY, points, reservations, etc works and called MS.

Got an extremly helpful person. Shw confirmed what I thought I knew about how points and reservations worked within each UY. She put me on hold, spoke with someone who found out where our points were (she had no idea why they weren't loaded), got them loaded, and made our reservation. BY FAR, the most helpful person I spoke with at DVC thus far. So we are all booked and lucky for them to because the MS CM I spoke with said we got the last room at AKV in the type we wanted.

I may still send an email off to dvc customer satisfaction because to me it seems the MA people do not want to be bothered ever and they don't know how the system even works.

My first phone call to DVC went something like the above. Like you I had a mini panic attack and came here to make sure I was in the right. Just because they work there does not mean they have any clue about how it works :sad2:
