I feel quite silly for asking this, sorry, but I have a question. I know that Disney owns manyyy resorts around the country, and my question is, do you have to be a DVC member to stay in one of these resorts?

no - anyone with the cash can stay in them.

Yeah, I understand that more now. My friend who is a DVC member had told me that she and her family were going to go to Europe and stay in one of the resorts, but she definitely must have gotten confused with timeshares versus resorts. Sorry about that

. She can use her DVC points to book a resort outside of WDW but it is expensive points wise and more difficult to arrange.
