During the off season do they only do the fireworks on weekends at DLR?

Yes. Usually Fri, Sat and Sun nights.

If your scheduled month is not listed yet, check the previous year at http://www.laughingplace.com/Guide-Cal-dl-200808.asp . That will give you an idea of what has been on the schedule at that time of year, in years past.

Unfortunately, yes. Unlike WDW which has acres and acres of land around the parks, DL is right in the middle of town. Therefore, they tend not to do fireworks during slower seasons on weeknights out of consideration of their neighbors. That's one reason you should plan at least one weekend night for your visit in the hopes that weather will permit a fireworks show.
