Here's the situation: you have a 150-point contract. You have 50 points banked from this year, 2008. You get your 150 points in 2009. So that gives you 200 points. You need to borrow another 94 in order to make your 294-point reservation for 2009. You call MS to make your reservation.

Now, do you have to SPECIFY to MS to first use the 50 banked points for the ressie, then 150 from 2009, then borrow 94 from 2010? Or do they automatically take care of this for you without needing to mention it?

No, they will use all available points first and then you will borrow. In fact, you can't borrow unless you have no usable points so they have to use up what you have available first.

Just nicely ask to specify/verify they use the banked '08 points first. It is what they are supposed to do, but yajustneverknow.. ;)
Also, if you ever make any changes, make sure they use the all the banked and borrowed points first, and any leftovers are current '09 UY. (which might have a shot at getting banked into '10)

They generally will automatically follow that order of usage. However, you don't always get an experienced and knowledgeable person at MS so it is usually recommended that you mention that you would like banked points used first.

Could you request a specific person when you call MS to make a reservation? What if you really liked the last person you dealt with? Could you ask for them?

I know that because there is not a lot of ambient noise in the background when you call DVC Member Services like there is with other call centers some people think that there are only 20-25 DVC Member Service people. I asked several months ago before the new hours went into effect and I was told there were over 125 working at any one time and they were planning to hire more. It is a call center environment just like Delta or FedEx or Dell's customer service call centers.

While I do know of certain circumstances where you may need to work with the same person during multiple calls, it is unrealistic to ask for and expect to talk to the same DVC Member Services person every time you call. It completely disrupts their system to do this just because you "like" talking with Jane or John. Besides, because they are open 7 days a week not all of them are working at any one time.
