Question to mods about referrals???

Why are DVC members allowed to give referrals for the new $25 gift card...and for DVC memberships in general (where we make a minimum $200 for a referral) BUT we can't give referrals for things like Sunshine Rewards and other rewards sites? THOSE referrals would give us what? $2?

Just wondering...

I would like to know that too. I have been racking my brain as to where to find people to look at the DVC property and maybe I should try here. I always thought no referral is no referral no matter where. PM'ing someone is one thing but...

Interesting.

I assume the dis doesnt want referrals on their board since they don't want people spammed.

I have always thought there should be an area solely for referrals. So that way if I am looking into a website I can use someones referal amd help them out plus hopefully find someone willing to help me out with questions.

I feel the same way with DVC, if I were to use someone as a referral, it would be nice for them to be willing to give me a little insight.

Just a thought.

You guys are correct...no referrals applies to everyone. If you feel that the rule is not being applied evenly, it's better to bring it to the attention of the board hosts where the referral post appears. That way it can be addressed appropriately or at least you will get an answer as to why it has been permitted.

I wondered that too. As a newbie, I am really confused.

And the DVC thing sounds interesting since I live in Florida (like you can't tell by my name) and love Disney.

So I'm confused, are we allowed to solicit referrals? Everything I see about DVC indicates yes we can!?!?

... and that is specifically stated in the Posting Guidelines (see #7).

Do the mods really feel that an "also note" mention, at the bottom of something about *advertising*, is really making it clear?

This has been something, and at least two mods know it already, that has been bothering me for ages.

I do not feel that "Also note that we do not want the boards to be used for solicitations or for requesting referrals." is crystal clear. In addition, because it is in the Advertising section, it is probably not seen, or is skimmed over, by many many people thinking about Referrals.

I know I would love it if there were another section added, labeled Referrals, clearing spelling out what is and is not OK.

I was dinged once, with a warning, not even for saying I would be someone's referral, but rather just saying "let's take this conversation out of this other person's thread", and it bothers me to this day, which is a big reason I continue to want it all spelled out crystal clear (because it was brought to my attention at that time, not because I was going for being someone's referral...I wasn't, I just wanted to take the conversation about a rewards site out of the other person's thread).

Any mods agree? :wizard:

For starters we had a friend buy into DVC but because were in Texas we got zippo for the refer.

So before I farm out my friends I need to know if I will get stiffed again.

Next thing is what info do they ask the person to prove they are not just someone faking a refer.
Has anybody done:confused3 a phone tour and how did it go down?

Some states do not allow their residents to receive gifts (kickbacks) of any kind for timeshare referrals. Texas may be one of them.

If that's the case for Texas, you won't get anything for the referral even if that person ends up buying. It's your home state that's "stiffing" you. Be mad at your state politicians, not DVC.

If you want to know about DVC, feel free to post on one of the DVC Boards. :)
