Hi everyone! My 10-night reservation for our one-bedroom at BWV is almost complete! Tomorrow I can add our 10th night, and it will be all done. :yay:

There will be 4 of us...me, DH, and our 2 sons. They will be 3 and 5 when we go. One thing that worries me is that the livingroom has a balcony, and I worry about the kids opening the door to the balcony at night. I know this will most likely not happen, but I am a worry wart in general, especially when it comes to my kids, so naturally the thought has crossed my mind. I know we can put a chair by the door, but I am also thinking about the sleeping arrangements in general. The kids might not want to sleep on the sleeper sofa, and I don't think you could put bed rails on a sleeper sofa either.

My kids each have a "Disney Pixar Cars" sleeping bag, which they would sleep on top of, not inside, as my paranoia worries me that they will get caught inside. (We tell them it is a "sleeping bag bed"!). Is the bedroom big enough in the 1-bedroom for the a 3- and 5-year-old to sleep on the floor on top of their sleeping bags? Or do you think it will be too cramped?

DH and I opt for the 1-bedroom for the space, and I know it sounds silly that we would all sleep in the same room, but if the kids sleep on the floor in the bedroom, DH and I can still hang out in the livingroom and watch TV at night, or hang out on the balcony at night. And we would be sleeping in the same room as the kids, so we would definitely hear if one of them tries to open the balcony door.

What do you all think? Am I being too paranoid? Should we just have them use their sleeping bags in the livingroom anyway and leave the door between rooms open?

:rotfl:I thought I was a paranoid mom:lmao: I love it!

I'm sure the answer to your question will be right up, b/c I'm not sure.:confused3

Yes, there is room for 2 sleeping bags if you don't open up the sleep sofa. The resort does have bed rails available (on a first-come basis) and they would fit on the sleep sofa.

I would not worry about either the balcony or the sleep sofa, but if the balcony is truly a concern, just bring some cord to secure the handles to prevent the kids from easily opening the door.

Enjoy! :)

I don't think you would have to worry as I found the balcony doors not that easy to unlock (we just stayed a few nights in a BWV studio).

However, having your children sleep on the floor in the same room with you is also not a problem at all--no different than what many of us did in regular hotel rooms before we bought DVC!!!

And, as you said, how nice for you and your DH to have a place to enjoy and unwind at the end of the day when your boys are asleep. I think it sounds perfect!

I agree, I think it would be hard for a 3 or 5 year old to turn the lock dial. It's also pretty high up.

I also agree that the lock is up high and hard to open.

You could also move furniture around to block the slider. We did that with our son, now 6 but then 4.

You can move the sleeper couch so the head is blocking the slider, or move the coffee table, etc

We explained the rules of not opening any doors, and did a baracade and had no issues.

have fun

Some department and hardware stores still have extendable lock bars for sliding glass doors that you can set above your children’s reach which will fit in luggage so if it is a serious concern you might keep an eye out for one (or 2).

WE STAYED AT OKW in a 1 bdr in feb with a 2.5 yr old and a 4.5 yr old. I was worried the kids would wake up and I wouldn;t hear them and they would end up wondering out soewhere, also the bed rails don't go ont he sleeper sofa. so the kids and i slept in the king size and hubby got squeezed out to the sofa:rotfl2: He said it was comfy and no one stole the covers. When we go back in march I think i will be ok with the sleeping in the couch......but that could change:scared1:

"my paranoia worries me that they will get caught inside"
I don't think this can happen. We camped for years with our 3, and darn it, they always could get out of their sleeping bags. Youngest DS had to sleep with his fingers under something, and usually it was me! ;)

Hope you have a great DVC trip.

All good advice. The only thing I can add is that once you're off and running, I think they will be soooooo tired, you won't have anyone wandering around at any point in the night or the morning! My kids are usually dead tired.

Do whatever you're comfortable with and just have fun. ;)

The bar for sliders won't work as the doors are french doors. If I remember correctly, the lock is high up. Also we move the coffee table infront of the door s an added deterent. We have put the bed rails on teh sleeper before, however, the arms of the sofa also help. I also bring a monitor...yes I know it is only the next room...but just incase...I would hear them open the door.

Our boys love sleeping together...they call it a sleep over.

You are correct kimpossible, balcony doors at BWV are not slider type ( iirc door swings out towards balcony ) and I agree lock is high - not near door handle.

:)

We haven't stayed at BWV yet, but have brought an airmatress with us to WLV, SSR, and OKW. We always get a one bedroom and put the air matress on the floor next to the bed. My two boys sleep there. We like that we can then hang out and watch TV in the living room after they go to bed. I don't think you would have any problems fitting two sleeping bags in any one bedroom.

Doesn't the master bedroom also have balcony access? It does at OKW, but I don't recall if it does at BWV.

We have found that the chairs are a better "bumper" than the bed rails anyway. Our 5 yr old is good in a "big" bed but we do but the chairs on the other side. Ours have always been so tired they do not move until AM!! When our youngest DD was still in the pack n play our older slept with us in the King bed. Now 4 is too many as most of you know the smaller they are the more room they take up!!!:lmao:

The children will be fine
There is room for them to sleep on the floor in the MB - but maybe bells(ons you find at a craft store) on ribbons tied to the door that swings open and a monitor would do the trick and still allow you and DH privacy.

The master bedroom closet is big enough for a 'sleeping fort' for kids that age. I don't think I'd shut the door (I don't think its well ventalated), but it would give you some privacy while keeping the kids more than six feet away from the doors.

Our 1 Bedroom at the BWV did have balconey access, but I had requested it. I like having the balcony off the Master Bedroom.
I don't know if they all do or not.

Some certainly do - we've always had balcony access off the master.
