Question - resale needs membership number?

Just had an offer accepted on a resale contract, and the agent needed my current member number, UY, number of points and home resort. Why?

I assume it’s to merge the new contract into my existing one? Does it make any difference if my current contract is direct?

First time buying resale, and it’s going faster than I expected. Offer accepted with a few minutes of sending it, so my $10/pt below asking was obviously not as bad as I thought. Here’s hoping it passes ROFR

As long as your UY is the same as your current contract and the name(s) on the deed are exactly the same, this contract will just be added to your existing membership, once closed. So they need you membership number and UY to assure everything is correct. I have no clue why they are asking for the number of points, though. We've bought multiple resale contracts through several different brokers and I don't recall ever being asked that before. Still, no big deal I guess to give them that info :confused3.

Your other contract being direct is fine. Many, many members - us included - have one membership consisting of both direct and resale contracts.

Good luck on ROFR - though it doesn't appear anyone needs it right now :goodvibes .

It just helps to ensure that DVD knows your current information so it can be set up correctly.

I think they also may want to know so they can be sure someone buying a different UY understands it’s a new membership and won’t be added to existing. But that’s just a guess

My UY is the same, June, so I’m assuming the new BCV will be added to the old VGF. I did pick the same UY since it’s what works best for us. Will all the points be combined on the dashboard, or will they be listed separately? I’ve only had my original contract since December so I’m still new at this.

If I add on a CCV or BRV at some point I’d likely do a Dec UY for that. So would I have a separate log in and dashboard for that, or would it still show up on my current dashboard just as a different line item?

Contracts can never be combined so they wlll be listed individually.

But, when you look at the summar of points it will list all, but the break down comes underneath so you know how many points are in each.

When you go to book, the contracts will both be there and you choose which one to use first when booking at 7 months. When booking during the home resort period only that contract will show as a choice.

If you buy a different UY, it’s a whole new membership. Same access via the DVC website but it will show on the dashboard as your second one.

When booking, you can only use one membership at a time so you can’t use points from a Dec UY with a June UY for a single reservation without a transfer.

Thanks…that info helps make it a lot clearer. I’m assuming that a transfer has to be done by phone with MS? And if I wanted to use some points from each June UY contract on a single reservation, that would also be done by phone with MS By way of a transfer? Or can that be done online?

My direct contract came with a full slate of 2022 points, which I banked, and my resale comes with most of the 2022 points banked, so I’d like to switch around some reservations to use up all of the 2022 banked points from both contracts before starting in on the 2023 points, I guess I’ll have to call in and have MS work their magic?

Assuming my new contract passes ROFR, which I am optimistic it will since I've seen contracts with lower prices per point pass, but I don’t want to count my points before they hatch, so to speak…

Transfer only need to happen when you move points between memberships. So, all your June UY points can be used together online for booking at 7 months since they are different resorts.

It would be points you buy in a different UY…or with different owners…that would then need to be transfer. When transferred, those points still retain their own UY…its just that they sit in the membership you moved them to in a temporary contact. There are rules too for transferred points so you have to be aware of that.

However, if you stay with just one UY, then everyone works easier for booking one single trip.

I don't understand your question. If you bought in the same UY, they should show together and you can't transfer.

Exception would be if you bought with a different combination of people on this deed or as a trust or something, so the owners are not exactly the same. In that case, you could have the same UY but a different membership.

If it populated them as different owners, you need to talk to member services.

I don’t have access to the new contract yet, and it’s my first add-on, so I had no idea how it would show. That’s why I’m asking. I didn’t know if each contract would list separately, or if they’d merge them, or if I’d have different logins, or what. Because I’ve never had a second contract before and I’ve only had my direct contract for four months.

In summary, if your resale contract is added to your existing membership, your contracts will act as though they were one big contract for booking purposes. It will be easy for you to use all of your points to make a reservation. No transferring required.

Of course, only the direct points can be used to book Riviera.
