Question Regarding Warnings in Game

Hi,

I haven't seen a warning in a long long time but I do remember occasionally, just after Beta, you would see a message in the centre of the screen, not unlike the message box seen ten minutes before close, that would be issued as a room warning if others were speaking inappropriately.

This evening I was doing a few things in other windows as my character was riding Peter Pan and came back to a flashing message box. Thinking I had perhaps won a sword pin I opened messages to find this:

Vulgar language is not acceptable in VMK. Please review the VMK values.

My character had spoken once all evening that that was in the ride in response to another player. You know how sometimes VMK will suddenly stop listening to your space bar and run all your words together? I typed "Oh! : ) lol" and it came out with no spaces as "Oh: )lol". VMK allowed this to be entered and printed on the screen.. a bit of weirdness but there you go.

I have two questions and hopefully the answers / opinions will make me feel better..

1) Is it possible that could have been interpreted as an attempt at vulgar language?

2) Did I receive a personal warning or are all warnings issued this way now?

I am pretty much horrified as I have always taken the VMK values quite seriously, to the point of instantly leaving a room where any possible inappropriate conversation was taking place.

I have to admit, I have always expected that at some point there will be a misunderstanding or wrong place / wrong time occurrence and I will lose my precious DoomCookie I just hope that this evening's message isn’t the first black mark.

It might have been a broadcast message that someone in the same room as
you (or on the ride) could have said something that counted as vulgar.

I'll try It's scary.. I've made such an investment in VMK, can you believe we will be celebrating two years soon? Wow.

But even room messages that may or may not apply to you come through your personal mailbox now? That's the part I was really wondering about..

This happened to me recently. I was standing in Town Square and I stepped away from my computer for a little bit, I get back, and there's the "vulgar language not allowed, yadda yadda" message on my screen. Well I thought nothing of it since I assumed someone else was saying something bad while I was away. But then I look at my private messages and I have TWO from VMK staff warning me about using vulgar language. I had not even said a word the whole time I had been on! It was a bit upsetting...do they usually send PMs to everyone in the room too if other people are using bad language? I thought it was just a room warning.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Hi,

I didn't do the "contact us" thing. I don't have a lot of faith in it and I was afraid of bringing even more attention to myself. I have documented the incident with dates so that if the worst should ever occur I have a chance at defending myself.

If I change my mind and write to them I will be sure to let you know how it goes.

I am glad you posted this, on Tuesday after visiting Slink's goodbye party hosted by Grumpy, I left and went into a friend's room - just as I came in the door I got a "Don't ask for personal information, discussing IM or other message boards is not permitted" warning. I thought it was a room warning (I had said, "Is this really your home? lol" - the name of the room was "home"!!) I had said nothing else and no one in there said anything. I also got TWO private messages in my personal mail. I figure asking about "home" was the offensive thing that set off the computer but it was very scary, since I did nothing wrong.
