Question Regarding tipping budget

I tip $5 to the maid every day for 2 adults and one child. We don't get anything "special" done for us. Just doing the job is enough.
See this is what I don't understand the maid is being paid to to "the job," so why should I pay her also. I am paying for maid service in my room rate.

Disneyland considers the maids to be a tipped position. Do you not tip other people that are considered a tipped position?
I do not stay at Disneyland Hotels, so honestly get off the "disneyland maid are tipped" bandwagon.

I tip as I see fit. We do not fly (well one time to WDW) so no tipping sky caps. We rarely eat in a sit down restaurant, so no servers to tip (when we do I could care less about 15%, 10%, 20% I will tip generally $3 for the 3 of us. It usually comes out to about 15%, sometimes more sometimes less.) Never have used a bellmen, so no tip there. I have never and never plan to tip the mailman. We do not get a newspaper, no tip there. Live too far away from town for Pizza Delivery, no tip there. So I guess you could say, I do not normally tip people in tiped positions.

Sorry to see you getting upset about tipping. I didn't suggest that you did stay at Disneyland. I was relating my experience staying there and noticing in the book by the bed that Disney considers maids a tipped position.

I do travel a lot for business and personal. I am of the opinion that if someone does something for me then I am in the position of giving them a tip.

I don't tip the mailman because they never get out of their van. But I do tip the pizza delivery person because they saved me the time and effort of getting in my car and getting the pizza.

If not tipping is working for you that is great. Most people do encounter these situations and that is what the discussion was about. If I couldn't afford to tip when I travel then I would stay home. The tips are such a small portion of my vacation money.

No one is saying you have to. I'm telling you what I do and my reasons for it. I don't need someone or something to tell me whether I should tip or not. I do what I was brought up to do. I see that some of never heard of tipping at any hotel. I have never heard such a thing. I remember my mom leaving a tip for the maids in 1977 on our first trip to WDW. And that was at the 8 Days Inn! LOL! I tip at all hotels even if I am staying just one night. I just have been brought up that it is the right thing to do. It makes me happy and it certainly makes the maids happy.

Annoyed is more like like. I was surprised at the difference (the first time you mentioned it) It was the other 4 or 5 time that made it annoying.

Who said anything about not being able to "afford" it?It is more that I do not see a reason to do so. I tip when I feel it is warrented. I do not encounter many situations where a tip is needed or justified. For me housekeeping is not one of those things.

Maybe you should just ignore this thread. If I posted that comment 4-5 times it was because lots of folks don't read the whole thread but drop into the middle of the discussion.

You are free to tip or not tip. I didn't say you should tip. I was relating my preference.

I am going to unsubscribe from this thread now.

Why should I ignore this thread? When it is only you (safetymom) that is annoying me (on this thread)? I have no problem with others tips. In fact if you read my responses to most tipping questions I will respond that mousekeeping is not considered a tipped postion, but if you choose to tip most (on this board at least) tip $1 per person per night, left daily. Any why should it matter if at Disneyland they consider the maid to be a tipped position when for the most part it is WDW that people are asking about?
