We'll be staying at the AKL in July and have a lunch ADR at Sanaa.
I have an 11 year old with Autism Spectrum Disorder who is very picky with foods but he does like his Chicken Strips.
Would it be possible for us to get the Chicken Strips meal to go from Mara and then take it to our ADR at Sanaa for him?

Does he like cold chicken strips? The distance from Jambo to Kidani where Sanaa is located will take you time to travel

If there is nothing he will eat, i would feed him ahead of time and let him order dessert and enjoy the animals at Sanaa

good luck!

You might also want to note the request on your ADR. If you explain the situation and have them note it, it is very possible that they will prepare him chicken strips for dinner that night.

1) And, restaurants are not allowed to heat/reheat things you bring in.
2) Even if bought at WDW a few minutes ago.
3) Florida Health Law.
4) It is unknown if the food can introduce bacteria into the food prep area.

I would contact the allergy line and see if you can get him chicken strips at the restaurant.

Thanks for the replies! We'll add a note to the ADR.

Temperature doesn't seem to be crucial for him. As long as the texture and flavor agree with him he's happy. Chicken strips at room temperature or even slightly cold are just fine.

They do normally carry the allergy safe chicken strips at every WDW TS so it shouldn't be a problem. They use a brown rice coating instead of bread crumbs but they look normal. They are a bit spicy not hot but kind of peppery if that bothers him though. Mara only has nuggets I think not strips and those are also peppery (adult nuggets) but the kids nuggets are bland.

I wonder, is it an 11 year old boy thing or an AS thing that he likes chicken strips. My ds 11, who has Aspergers loves chicken strips/nuggets. ;)

I have been looking at the Disney menus (we have the QSDP) and I hope we don't have too many issues with food for my son. He doesn't have much of a varied palate that is for sure. He would live off of processed breaded chicken like strips and nugget or bologne and hotdogs if I let him. I think he may have a problem finding food he likes since I would prefer he didn't eat the same thing every meal. He is very resistant to trying new things and doesn't like any sort of "real meat" although he eats it when I make him and he doesn't like hamburgers. We have spoken a few times over the last few months about him trying new foods. I have told him that the meals at Disney may not be the same as what he is used to getting.

Someone mentioned the brown rice coated ones and I can't speak for your son, but mine would notice if it was out of the ordinary coating type. He also doesn't like anything the least bit spicy and he doesn't like any sort of sauce or whatever other than ketchup. Of course the ketchup can't touch his food either until he dips it in himself.

He's quirky and a little hard to get along with sometimes but I love him dearly!:love:

Good luck with the food and enjoy your trip! :wizard:

There might be more information over on the DisAbilities Board.

You just described my son to a tee! They are so similar in temperament and in the choice of food...including the fact that he may not like the brown rice coating.

Good luck with the food and enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the kind words. We'll just see how it goes during this trip. He has surprised us a few times in the past so who knows?

I hope you enjoy your upcoming trip too.

Same to you. You'll have to let us know how the dining went with your son.

I'm holding my breath for meals with my son. He goes really hot and cold sometimes with how open he is to new foods. Sometimes the two of us really but heads and fight a lot. I think maybe we are two peas in a pod. Autism is relatively new to us. Even though I have known since he was quite young there was something up with him, it was only last year he was diagnosed when I finally had the money to pay to have him assessed. Both he and I are still learning and he has tonnes of questions, including "Why do I have to be different?" Most of his issues involve social issues though, which really affects school and friendships for him.

Enjoy your vacation.:cool1:
