!!! WARNING, THIS THREAD REVEALS A MAJOR SURPRISE IN THE PLOT OF THE MUMMY RIDE !!! Stop reading now if you don't want to know.

We rode ROTM twice during our last visit in December. I have to say I was not at all impressed. The ride was short, and the coaster aspect of it wasn't all that good. The special effects were pretty good, but not exceptional.

I am wondering if I missed something though. Animatronics are a hobby of mine and I was really looking forward to seeing the advanced animatronic mummy figure I had read so much about. I think we encountered him at the fake unload area, but this figure never seemed to do all that much. There was a breaking glass effect in the control booth which revealed him, then he just stood there in the booth, yelling at us and gesturing. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't what I would consider state of the art, nor did he do anything special.

So, did I miss something? Is the mummy fugure supposed to do more (I had heard rumors that he jumped at you)? Is this the scene where the advanced animatronic figure is supposed to appear? I have noted many people listed this as their favorite attaction in Orlando and I just don't understand. Please tell me if something was broken or that I somehow missed something.

Did you see the animatronic Imhotep that sucks the soul out of Reggie and jumps out of his coffin?

This animatronic is in the first scene of the ride, right before the treasure room.

Often, this animatronic might be down, and it is replaced with what I call "Box with Lighting Effects on it's face," much less impressive than the animatronic.

No, nothing like that at all. We got the box with lighting version. No wonder I was underwhelmed.

The scene the way you describe it sounds great. I hope its working the next time we go.

The first Imhotep is awesome--when it works  Sorry you didn't get to see him in action. It's a completely different effect.

Unfortunately the effects on ROTM are tempormental. I rode the ride 6 times over 2 days and had slightly different things not working although Imhotep worked every time in the first scene. One time, the door didn't close as we were exiting the treasure room. Another time, the fire on the ceiling in the false exit didn't go off. Try riding it again and hopefully everything will work for you.

The Mummy Ride in Hollywood has this neat effect where all these dismembered arms are reaching down from the ceiling to grab you. I wish they would have added that onto the Florida ride. If they would have had enough space to combine the two ride, it would have been really cool!

yeah the first imhotep rocks
he moves around and talks perfectly

i know what you mean about the box with lighting thing when i went last week imhotep didn't work either

it isn't good for new riders because they hear imhotep roar but then a face just appears
make sure you ride it again when it works
it would be a shame if you didn't get to see one of the best parts of the ride

the first imhotep bursts from the coffin and screams 'silence!' and points his hand toward reggie's mouth, concentrating a blue beam. reggie goes slack, and imhotep continues with his 'with your souls' dialogue. the problem with the ride is there are too many effects. it's about as consistent as splash mountain. when you get a perfect run, it's a great ride. it's an impressive effort, and it's actually a full minute longer than the version at USH.

back row in the USF version is pretty good for the coaster part incase anyof you who only go by feviews think that that part sucks

i know someone who works there... and they said that they were thinking of having people dress up at imohtep and other mummies at the artificial stop and have them jump out at you... but they said that it would eb too costly or something like that....

Actually, it would be too dangerous. The room would get hot with the fire scene coming on for each car that went through. Also the only way to get there is through the emergency evacuation stairs.

even though it would be cool why would they do that
they already have a robot and fire to scare people

what they should have done is have a robot that looked like an employee and they just crumbled into dust or something like that

They do have an animatronic employee there but she just turns into a skeleton.

i know about that employee thats a projection
what i mean is something like a dummy or something that will crumble into dust or turn into a skeleton INSTEAD of the projection......i know it would be hard to do but a guy can think of stuff can't he

Yes, I'm sorry it is a projection but Imhotep is an animatronic in the fake unload.

My son said that at no time did they seriously consider putting a real ride op there as the room is really, really hot.

yeah it is really hot even when you go into the room....guess its because all that heat from the celing

i still laugh at my family who ask me if the ride is over and then they fall again
hahahahahahahaha

i got my dad on that ride... my dad is a thrill seeker at the age of 41.

so was my grandpa when he was alive... he was 62 when he did his last roler coaster.... i watched him and laughed... he was like a grandpa to all of the people that worked at six flags and what not...

back to my dad..

i took him on rotm around the last few nights of hhn

when we got off... he sighed and said 'that is the greatest idea that i have ever seen... but it needs a few loops and more drops!'

i smacked his sholder and we went on it again...
