Has anyone ever made a priority seating (7:30) at the Rose & Crown and just ordered the fruit and cheese plate (as opposed to a dinner) and stayed to enjoy Illuminations.

We will be having an early dinner at the Crystal Palace the night we plan to see illuminations and would just like to order a snack at the Rose & Crown. What do you think??

Thank you,
Kim:D

The Rose and Crown patio is just a great spot to view Illuminations! We have had 7:30 pm priority seating, and ordered appetizers, dinner and dessert. We were just finishing our dessert when Illuminations started. Having experienced dinner and Illuminations there, I think it would be very difficult to draw out a fruit and cheese plate for an hour and a half (I have had this appetizer and the plate is pretty small). I think out of respect for the wait staff, and for the restaurant itself, I personally would not just order an appetizer and tie up a table for a couple of hours. But, that's just me, and I hope you do not take that to mean that I would think that you aren't respectful if you decide to do this! What do others think about the posted question?

too, and I ordered the fruit and cheese plate and the salmon appetizer. And a pint of Harp. My companion ordered dinner (Prime Rib), but the waiter said we could stay as long as we wanted, they stop seating people on the patio at 8:30. I also got Sticky Toffee Pudding, it was yummy, and I did not finish it. It was April, after Easter, and a little chilly on the water, but still very nice. I think you can order the appetizers, ask the wait person if it's ok to stay for the show. If they want you to leave, they can tell you up front, and depending on the time of year, they may, but I doubt it.

We have found the waitstaff very friendly and on both occasions they encouraged us to take our time with our meal. In fact, I asked one server multiple times for the check before Illuminations (so we could quickly leave afterwards), and she kept postponing it and saying she'd bring it afterward. It's my theory that she did this on purpose, thinking that we'd be in a great mood after Illuminations and leave a larger tip. Well, it worked! We did have a very nice meal and she was very, very delightful, so I enjoyed leaving her a good tip.

My comment, for what it's worth, is that we're all free to order whatever we want at any Disney restaurant, and I haven't ever experienced anything to make me uncomfortable with whatever was ordered or if food were shared. No matter where we eat, I gauge the size of the tip on the total of the bill, the quality of the service and any special requests or extras, AND the amount of time that we've leisurely spent that might have kept the table from turning over (and kept the server getting an additional tip from a new party). I would feel as if the server were getting 'short changed' if we were there a long time and had a small bill, so I'd definitely add to the standard tip. If it's not a busy season and there's empty tables (as it was one night in March because it was cool), I wouldn't be as concerned about this.

PS -- I don't read this particular board much, so haven't read if R&C still allows people to wait for a patio table or they followed through on a policy change that some people posted about last year ---- that people are seated at which ever table is available when they check in and can't request to wait. The point being, there's never any guarantee of getting an outside table there.

One question,
If they take PS until 8:30 would it be possible to make them then and just get the appetizer and maybe dessert?
