Question regarding fireworks and rides

I know this will sound crazy but, can you hear the crackel of the fireworks at any of the parks(loudly?), my son absolutely can't handle very loud sudden noises. We're going in early Oct., what time do they usually do the fireworks?
Also, here our local carnivals play radio music very loud at each of the rides. I'm sure they don't, but is this done at WDW? I know crazy questions, but my son doesn't like loud sudden noises, even as a baby if a firetruck went by with it's sirens while we were in the car, he'd freak!

Thanks!

there is music all over the parks, but it's very subtle background music - I can't think of anywhere that has your typical 'fairground' music. The music at WDW is all themed and is part of the ride, rather than just background noise.

The fireworks are pretty loud at MK, I think if you were inside it wouldn't be too bad, but if you were outside in most of the park then you would hear it, as they fireworks in WISHES are all around the park.

At Epcot, they are in the center of the lake, and they are quite late at night (9pmish), so you could either leave before them, or watch them from inside (I think the only place you can do that is from Japan), or be in the Future World area of the park.

AK doesn't have any fireworks

MGM has the fantasmic show with fireworks, but if you didn't watch the show then you wouldn't see them. It would be a shame to miss the show though as it's very good - saying that, we didn't take our 4 year old as she would have been scared and I can't see the point in making a child sit through something they won't enjoy, so we let her go to the kids club at the Beach Club and we went to MGM for the evening.

If he will let you, they sell foam ear plugs that may help. Or try cotton in his ears. That's what we did when DD was younger.

My ds (10yr) hates loud fireworks too. I think that I am going to get some ear plugs at Walmart before we go. If he wants them there then I will already have them.

There really are a lot of shows etc that have loud sudden noises that might startle your child. A few right off my head would be indiana Jones Show, Back lot tours, and all the 3-d movies, and many of the shows you would not think about such as the Little Mermaid. Some rides juch a R & R are very loud too. Ear plugs and reading up on rides so you can warn your child might be a big help.

I never even thought of the earplugs. We have a few more things going on this summer so I'll test them out!

My son is now 18, and he is very sensitive to the loud firworks, so much so he does Boy Scout Camp as a counselor every summer to get away from firworks - as well as other advantages of course ...

Anyway, DS swears by the foam earplugs - he wouldnt go anywhere with out them, he was given a huge case of the foam earplug packages, and often carries them in his pocket! (he does tend to loose things!! )

(we had him tested by a specialist and thre was a name for this, that escapes me, but apparently his nerve endings are hit just right by these loud bangs, and it causes him physical pain! We thought he was crazy for being afraid to go into a Chuck E Cheese, till we discovered it was the popping of balloons (accidental) So now He's Prepared!!

We also swear by the "ear planes" they sell at Target, WallMart, Walgreens etc to help the ears on take off and landings on plane rides.

I was considering getting him tested but now after reading your post, I will definately be doing so immediately!!

Thanks again!

I should stress that ds is hard of hearing. Which is why the load bangs and his reaction was so confusing to us. He plays hockey for Stan Mikita's group, and they had on staff a specialist from Chicago... agian, all I remember is that it has something to do with the sound transferring to the nerve endings sending pain through ds...

When he stayed with my mom one fourth of July (she lives on a lake, quiet, pretty remote, but neighbors) they were having a sewage system put in on the street, so huge concrete thingys - well, a firecracker went off, ds immediately went down screaming, and my high school nephew thought for sure ds had been hit with that firecracker - he grabbed ds carrying him to the house yelling call 911, call 911 - it was a frantic few moments till I could assess the situation... but ever since then I know to take ds and let him lead,

we took this son to Disney when he was in 3rd grade and we viewed the fireworks from indoors (like the CM) that was before ds discovered the ear plugs. So I'm not sure if part of it is he grew older, an accostmed to this, or he's just so good at avoiding fireworks (which I love!)

At camp they set off this mini cannon, he just prepares with the ear plugs, everyone on staff knows him, but I'm sure many just thinks he's crazy!!

I went to Disney with my DD(3 1/2) when I was 6 months pregnant. One night we had gone to Epcot and I worried the DD would be afraid of fireworks so we left early but stopped in Mousegears in Future World to do some shopping. We heard the fireworks and DD decided she wanted to see them so I took her outside. She thought the first one was really cool but at the next bang she totally freaked out. I picked her up and brought her back into the store. It took me a while to find my friend with her stroller and she was getting very heavy late at night while I was pregnant. We stayed at the Poly and saw Wishes from the room or beach there several times and she really enjoyed that. I knew better than to bring her to Fantasmic.

I remember thinking that the Lion King show in AK was very loud but I was there without kids. I still haven't made it there with my kids. I'll have to remember the ear plugs for that one because I know they'd love it. DD is a total Lion King freak. Your son might also not like Pirates with the canon fire.

Eeyore 45-you mentioned the "ear planes" at Target for the plane and have the ears pop and things like that. Are they like ear plugs? I know that any time that I have flown I need to chew gum when we take off and land because my ears pop and I cant hear a thing for a day!! :p

Ear planes look like ear plugs, from what I remember they are a soft pliable plastic, look like a screw, and are open in the middle, they fit like ear plugs, when you read the box you'll read the testemonies of people who swear by them (and they have been mentioned on this board I'm sure) I also believe the mind is powerful, so I let the boys read (or I read it to them!) that box too so they would know how great these are - -

We took tootsie rolls instead of gum (my kids love chocolate) and the ear planes, and I think also the decongestant, again, my ds had problems with his middle ears, as well as my dh... my dh flew a lot in those days and he always suffered ear pain, until he used the ear planes!!

Also, our speech therapist loves tootsie rolls, she says that chew is a good help to work the little ones tongues!! (who knew?!!)

Thanks for that info. I will be sure to head over to Target before our trip and pick some up.:Pinkbounc

insmom-earplanes come in both adult & child sizes. They worked great for my DD. I think I got mine at Walmart but they are a bit tough to find (see)-I had to ask the pharamsist.

eeyore45-thanks for the tootsie roll idea. I haven't given my kids gum yet so that sounds great. Also we just found out my DS has a speach problem-still waiting for the school to do an evaluation-have to wait til Sept-but a therapist at a cookout confirmed my suspision that my DS(3) does have a problem. She said get rid of the sippy cups, get him to use a straw and drinking thick things with a straw is good, and have him blow bubbles. I'll have to let him have an occasional tootsie roll.

thanks for the info. I will check with Walmart this weekend. I would assume that they may have them now for the people that put "plugs" in their ears when they swim. :wave2:

I also notice that in Rite Aid they sell the plane plugs (not sure if that is the correct name) that was on a previous thread. They are in the air sickness isle.
