Question regarding booking with transferred points and modifying

Hi all! I got some transfer points to have enough for my Dec 2025 trip so I know I have to call in to use those. Can I book a reservation in advance and then "modify" to the dates I actually want? This is a high desired time so losing the advantage of booking the moment it opens could result in me not getting it. I've never done any modifications before, so is that possible to do with transferred points? I will also be combining those transferred points with my own so they will all be co-mingled once I book something.

Using transferred points online during the home resort window just does not work…even with modifications. I think it was set up this way to prevent OTU points from getting the owner some home resort advantage.

Now, I have heard of minor success when it’s the same home resort, same UY. But, I have not had that experience.

Your best bet is to make what you can with your own points right at 8 am to lock in the room and then call at 9:00 am to finish it up.

The system holds those in a temporary contract in your account so it always knows which wines are being used.

One thing you could do is try? Book something that is in its home resort window and see if it lets you prioritize the transferred points first before your own and actually allows booking. If it does, you might be fine.

Luckily, it is the same home resort (Riviera) but different use year (mine is March 2025 and the transferred points are June 2025). None are banked or borrowed. It definitely won’t pull up the transferred points online to book anything, but are you saying to just try and see if they come up when attempting to book?

Otherwise, I’ll try the book whatever I can online for the first couple days of trip like you said and call to use the transferred points to add days. Can DVC modify existing reservation to add days without canceling the whole thing and risk losing days I had? I’ve never done any walking or anything so I have no clue lol. I’ve been pretty lucky so far, but usually have enough points to book online at 8a

I have two Riviera contracts - June and Sept. Every year, I transfer points from one to the other. I book at the 11-month mark and the "transferred points" will show up as an option when you book. You can't see the transferred points otherwise.

If you go to book something now within the home resort period and it doesn’t show the contract as a choice, and only shows your contract then it’s not going to work online until you are at 7 months.

And yes, MS can modify and did days using that contract without having to cancel.

Oh interesting! I wonder if they handle it differently for your "own" points and same resort? I am going to check now and see what happens. Thanks!

OMG it worked! I can see the transferred in points! This is awesome news. Thank you guys so much, now I don't have to be anxious for the next 4 mths until my booking lol

I have 4 banked pts in one membership. Am I able to transfer those into my other membership and modify them into an existing resy? It is a resy that was modified at 7 months to a non home resort.

MS has been allowing owners to transfer banked points between their own memberships.

The points retain their same UY so you can swap as long as the trip is within the timeframe those points are good.

Thank you, I’ll go to chat now.

Update: The wait was too long with chat yesterday so tried again today.
My four points that I thought would get wasted have been transferred into my second membership and also reallocated into my reservation in March. Nice to be using them!

Slightly late to the thread, but an interesting scenario today… I transferred banked points from one membership to another (same resort and UY).

Rather than creating a temporary contract, MS simply added the points to my existing contract, so they are fully viewable and useable online. It does look a bit odd now though as I have 151 points on a 100 point contract 🤷‍♀️

I have never seen that happen. Weird

It must all depend on what CM you get because I asked to do this, seeing other people have done it (transferring points from one contract to another so they're all in one) and the CM I got told me no!

My guess is that there still is a temporary contract behind the scenes holding them but because they match exaclty to what is owned, that there is a way it shows on the dashboard.

Just like when you have two contracts in your membership, the dashboard lists totals.

For example, my dashboard for my Dec UY shows 275 points but that 275 is 125 RIv and 150 for VGF

Points can’t move to a different contract.

Yeh that’s what I thought, but the activity statement for the contract even shows the points being added to that contract! Weird right??!

They wouldn't even do it at all for me. They just flat out said no. They didn't complete anything behind the scenes because all the further I got was "we don't do that".

If you had points transferred in, then they would have had to put them in a contract

If you were talking to move points from one contract you own to another in the same membership, then there would be no need for that because they already function together.

Thjs person is seeing the transferred points on their dashboard…but those points are not one they own. The part that doesn’t using happen is seeing them on the dashboard.

Unless I am misunderstanding what you asked them to do, points you own can only move between memberships.

Have you tried to book with them yet? I’d be curious to see how they able up when you book in terms of what is holding them.
