When making a reservation, do you have to have the required number of points available at the time the reservation is made OR is it OK as long as I have the appropriate number of points when the reservation occurs.

For example, let's say I make a reservation today at my home resort for Oct 1-5, 2005, and my use year is, say, September. At this moment in time (today) I don't have any points available to use but will have enough as of September 2005 to cover the reservation. Is it still ok to make the reservation today for Oct??

Hope my question makes sense!

You just need the points in your accoutn at the time of the ressie. So, for your example, you could make the ressie today.

To add a little more to the explanation -

The points you use must correspond to the dates of your stay. If you have a September use year -

2004 points are good for stays between 9/1/2004 and 8/31/2005.
2005 points are good for stays between 9/1/2005 and 8/31/2006.
2006 points are good for stays between 9/1/2006 and 8/31/2007.
etc.

If you want to stay in October 2005, you need to use points valid for that stay. Those would be

1. Points you get on 9/1/2005 - those would be considered your current use year points for that stay.

2. Points you bank from your 2004 use year. If you want to use the points you got on 9/1/2004 for your October 2005 stay you must bank them prior to making the reservation and in accordance with the banking deadlines.

3. Points you borrow from your 2006 use year. You can only borrow points from one use year ahead and only at the time you are actually making a reservation.

HTH. Just wanted to be sure you knew you had to bank the 2004 points if you plan to use them for the October 2005 trip.

Best wishes -

I think the part that confuses new members is they think that their points do not actually drop into their account until the use year starts. That is not true. Actually, your points for all your future use years are already in your account. The date of stay governs which ones you can use.

I am confused. We just added on some more points. When I called to make a reservation for May they said "You only have 178 pts (BWV) left for 2005 and that would be borrowing them", I assume since my use yr is OCT. Was that right what MS told me?? He said if I canceled the reservation I would need to use the points by Sept 30 of this year (2005). I booked earlier using banked 04, this year 05 and then borrowed 10 from 06 for a BCV stay we scheduled in Nov 05. They never said the 05 points were being borrowed. Is this right??

Thanks,

All points usage is based on date of stay, not date of reservation.

If you have an October use year, your 2004 points would be good for stays from 10/1/04 to 9/30/05. Your 2005 points would be good for stays from 10/1/05 to 09/30/06. So if you want to make a reservation for May 2005, current year would be 2004 points, you could use banked 2003, current 2004, borrowed 2005. If all your 2003 & 2004 points are gone, you would have to borrow 2005 and they would expire 9/30/05 if you borrow them and then don't use them. For a November 2005 reservation, current year would be 2005 points, so you could use banked 2004, current 2005, borrowed 2006.
