My DH made the reservation and is the primary guest on the reservation. My name is also on the reservation as the second guest. DH is insistent on renting a car-he doesn't want to be "stuck" without a car and is not a fan of using the bus :confused3 The kids and I will be taking ME from the airport to the resort and DH will be driving the rental car. If we arrive first will I be able to check in or will I have to wait for DH since he made the reservation?

Any adult on the reservation should be able to check in.

We get rental cars, too. Fabulous to have, IMO! If you have a free lunch or dinner and want to go offsite, Sweet Tomatoes is a really nice buffet type place near DTD.

Thanks for the recommendation! We only have one lunch ADR as we plan to take breaks in the afternoons or grab CS lunches so I will definitely keep this place in mind. H doesn't like the idea that we have to allow 90 mins for travel time to get to our ADRs. We have a couple that are off the beaten path and he'd rather drive there than rely on a bus.

You might want to look into renting a car once you get on property, then you could all arrive together

I would say if the husband does not like to use the parks and resort buses, he most likely will not want to go on ME; that wait is longer and the ride is longer than parks and resort buses.

Thus renting the car at the airport.

In 5 trips using busses from various Disney properties it has never, ever taken me 90 min to get ANYWHERE on a bus. Typical travel time is 30-45 min max, and that is if we had to wait on a bus. They say allow 90 min so that they aren't responsible if you miss an ADR due to travel, but it really should never take you that long.

He has no interest in taking ME lol. I want to experience it with the kids because I think it's fun and I don't mind a bus ride even if we have to wait a bit. While I realize that it may not take 90 mins to travel within Disney, they do tell you that for a reason. When DH read that he said that he was definitely not interested in using Disney transportation. We also got a great deal on the rental car so that only further swayed him in that direction. We live in a fairly big city with public transportation and I used to work in NYC and took public transportation every day so I'm pretty used to it and don't mind it. H on the other hand drives to work and everywhere else lol.

Neither do I. :)

We finally tried ME on our last trip, both to and from WDW. It was decent. We missed the car, though. However, RAC, was great. Not having to draw our bags to the airport and just saying goodbye to them that morning? So good. And now I finally understand that you can use RAC even without using DME, so that's what we'll be doing in the future. :)

Using ME to the resort wasn't all it could have been, though, since we arrived after midnight, so we had to get our bags on our own instead of Disney taking care of them.

As for the WDW transportation, it's been really hit or miss for us. Sometimes it's tolerable, sometimes it's annoying, and one time for DH and my aunt it was just awful. We never have anything but nice or tolerable experiences while driving, so we're sticking with that. :)

As you know, there is no resort-to-resort transportation at WDW, unless it is among resorts on the same transportation loop (such as the monorail resorts or the Epcot resorts). As a result, if you have an ADR at a resort other than the one you are staying at, getting to the ADR resort generally requires taking a bus (or other transportation) from your resort to a park and then taking transportation from that park to the resort where the ADR is. Under those circumstances, it can easily take 60 - 90 minutes to get from your resort to your ADR.

I have to agree, the poster did not take that into account going from resort to transfer point to next resort.

It took that long once getting from SSR to Poly. The bus was late and then there was so etching wrong with the monorail!

You really can never know what can happen, IMHO I'd rather be early & walk around the resort then be late..

We are looking forward to exploring the different resorts as we are thinking of becoming DVC owners. We have most of our ADRs at resorts as opposed to in the parks with the exception of two at Epcot I believe the rest of our ADRs are at resorts. Thanks for the input I really appreciate it and I am SO looking forward to not having to deal with our luggage lol.

You are right, I was assuming one bus trip. If I had no car and an ADR that required multiple transfers I would likely get a cab, so I didn't account for that. Even 3-4 ADRs like that over the course of the week would still be around the $100 mark for cab fare. that would be cheaper than a rental, unless you got she kind of amazing deal.

Love, love, love Sweet Tomatoes! So good :)
