A question for those familiar with the Voices -

I was watching a couple of clips of the Voices on YouTube, and I ran across one that included a female conductor/host - something I had not seen before. Given the camera angles in the video, I couldn't tell if it was someone I know or not. It appears to be a fairly recent performance.

If anyone who's familiar with the Voices has seen them recently and knows who this might be, can you give a shout-out?

Or if not, please share any Voices stories you might have. I need my fix.

Yes, she's one of the regular troupe of singers.
I don't know the individual names of the singers.

We watched the Voices of Liberty during and after Thanksgiving week this year. Something new we'd never seen before: 9 people! I don't know if they were breaking in someone new or what. But as usual they were wonderful! I really enjoyed the Christmas selections. :sunny:

Usually there are eight, but sometimes, just depending on scheduling, there may be nine. Once or twice, I've seen ten.

Looking forward to seeing my good friends again next February, . . . . .

The VOL group that sings in CP is the same as those that sing in AA. Just depends on the day/time as to who sings where. Our conductor during rehearsals for CP is a VOL CM. Each time I've sang I've seen different members as part of CP.

Just out of curiosity, can you tell which VoL performer is doing the conducting? (I don't think that violates any privacy issues that I can think of.) My guess would be Dirk, or perhaps Kevin.

Dirk rehearses the cast choir for Candlelight. Does anyone else remember when you could catch the VoL at overlapping set times? They would sing double-choir arrangements with one group upstairs and the other downstairs in the rotunda.

I saw this once..., probably about 96 or so. I happened to have gone to college with the guy who at the time was the director, he was also one of the basses, and we talked after the performance. I asked him about it and he explained how it was the overlapping of the shift change. He has since gone on to sing at the Grand Ole' Opry with the Carolee Singers.

Yup it was Dirk. Great guy and lots of fun. Cigar, were you a CM before?

Nope, just a friend and a fan of the Voices. I've gotten to know many of them, and I think it's great that not only are they very fine singers, but they're very fine people as well. They love visiting with guests at the end of a set.

2angels, if you get another chance, please let Dirk know that Nicholas sends his best. He'll know who that is.

I spent a week at WDW arriving on 9/13/01. For a while, the American Adventure rotunda was almost like a shrine. They were doing extra patriotic traditional numbers, and the tears flowed freely that week.

Ever since then, I've made sure to see 10-20 sets every time I visit WDW, about once a year. Last time, they even sang "happy birthday" to me right in the middle of one of their sets. That was a rare treat.

I will do that, I sing again tomorrow night in the Candlelight Processional so if he is singing I'll be sure to tell him "hello" from Nicholas.

OK, great - if not, you can deliver the same message to most of the other Voices who will also know who it's coming from. Gosh, I miss my buds.

Oops, sorry gang, I guess I've gotten a bit off topic! I promise I'll behave now. :rolleyes1 (my first ever disboards smiley)

No problem Nicholas, will do. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you. They are absolutley amazing!

Do any of you insiders know where one of the VOL singers went? I don't know his name but he talked to us at length one time, then we saw him on another visit as a Dapper Dan on Main Street, haven't seen him at all in the past couple of trips. He wasn't real tall, round face (but not heavy built), I think he sang tenor, really friendly smile. TIA! :sunny:

It sounds like you're talking about Kevin - he was usually the "host" of the Voices' performances, and he's late 50s or so, with a very professional speaking voice. Does this sound like your guy?

Kevin left the Voices a couple years ago to be one of the Dapper Dans, as you mentioned. As far as I know, he's still part of that act, though he may have cut back a bit on his schedule. He says he's enjoying being at the MK more than Epcot, although he still loves the Voices.

He'll also be found every once in a while (not often enough, in my book) filling in with the Voices. He's a great guy, and his wife is also part of the group, singing low alto.

Do the Dapper Dan's have a regular schedule and are there different groups?

Do they still do this?? I would love to hear it.
