I've made several reservations for our family of 4 for a late Nov./early Dec. trip. Now my mother and brother are thinking of joining us. If I make reservations for a party of 6 and they decide not to come, can I call and change the reservations to a smaller party? If not, what would happen if just 4 of us show up (assuming it is not a restaurant with a cancellation fee)?

This is a very annoying aspect of the dining plan and reservations system. If you don't have everything nailed down 180 days out, you are out of luck at many of the more popular spots.

If you can make reservations for 6, do so. Then you can either remove them or show up without them. It is much easier to remove guests later than it is to add them later.

Make the reservations for the larger party size if you can. Then you can call and adjust the party size down if you need to, including for reservations for places that hold with a cc.

I had made all my adr's for a party size of 7. We had family coming with us this trip. However, they had to back out due to a new job. I called the dining reservations line yesterday and the CM amended all my reservations down to a newto a party size of 4. This included our adr at Akershus where I had to guarantee with a cc.

I wouls also think that you could just arrive at the podium and say you have fewer people coming, but I figured I would free up the space, since I have some hard to book places on my list.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. It's good to know I can adjust the party size down.
