Question re military discounts

I'm not personally eligible for any military discounts, so I never bothered to follow these in the past. However, I've got a friend who's active duty, and he's been talking about taking his family. I told him about the Military Salute discount tickets Disney is currently offering, but these must be bought AND used by Dec. 19, 2018, and that might not work with his schedule. After that date, how often likely is it Disney will offer military discounts on tickets (or any other travel deals)? Like I said, I've never really paid attention to military discounts despite 10+ trips, because they didn't apply to me, but I'd like to help him out on saving some money if I can. Are military discounts pretty rare, or are they a semi-regular thing like the free dining promo? Thanks for any help!

The salute has been ongoing for several years. There is never a guarantee it will be renewed, however with the lackluster attendance this summer it is a possibility. I think it would be announced in September. The best info is here: http://www.militarydisneytips.com
There is also a standard military discount that isn't nearly as good as the salute. All the info is on that website.

One of the nice things is you can book a package without the tickets if you are military. So, if they are interested in a dining plan but want to use the discounted tickets they can. We have used the Military Salute tickets for several years. They are awesome! We have used the military discount on rooms too. Sometimes they are good and sometimes not. Otherwise, that is about it. The reason that they end on that day is because they are blocked out the rest of the year and then if they are renewed, they will start again in January -

Everyone can book a "ticketless package" now, although you have to call to book it.

OP- As others have said, the military promotion has been going on for about the last 10 years continuously. It provides an ultra low 4 or 5 day ticket price. It also has a substantial discount for rooms. The real beauty of the room offer is that you can book it with the discount many months in advance. In the fall of 2017 I booked my December 2018 room. That is way farther in advance than someone can book any other promotional rates. Room availability is limited, so booking these special rate rooms early is my recommendation. Remember............someone can book a room only reservation and only have to pay a deposit up front. As long as you cancel at least (about) a week in advance, you can get a full refund on the deposit. For somebody in the military, that flexibility can come in handy.
