I am assuming if an airline cancels your flight (previously booked) they'd call you if it was cancelled. Is this correct?

I am getting married in November at WDW and although we decided long ago to take the autotrain (cheaper than renting when you are under 25), all of our relatives and friends are flying. if the flights are cancelled when will they call you and will they give you an option of other flights flying out on the same day? i am so nervous that some friends/relatives won't be able to make it to our wedding. should they call to confirm flights now, or wait?

My advice is to wait another week or two before calling to confirm a November flight. All of the press releases that I have read state that the capacity reductions will be effective October 1. The airlines are all very busy now trying to accomodate passengers who don't want to fly right now. In my experience (which may or may not be valid in these times), if a flight is cancelled, the airline will book you on another flight. Sometimes they call you first and sometimes they just make the change and send mail or call you to notify. If I was put on a flight that didn't work for me, I just called them and asked to be changed to a flight that met my needs. The airlines have always been accomodating.

Congratulations and best wishes on your upcoming wedding. Hope everything turns out just the way you want it.

thanks carol. i guess i am just freaking out due to wedding stress and the stress of this past week. i have always been a worry wart and this is bringing out the worst in me. i've put so much time effort (and money!) into this wedding that it would be horrible not to have my friends and family there.

i'm keeping my fingers crossed. hopefully with fewer people flying, rescheduling won't be an issue.

I would wait until two weeks before departure and then call to see if the flights are still intact. Then call again one week before departure. Unless you get a letter or e-mail, typically if your flight is cancelled that far in advance you will be automatically rescheduled. If you do get a notice and don't like the alternate flight, call them right away. It is your choice whether to have the alternate flight earlier or later but it is their choice as to how much earlier or how much later, the latter depends on seat availability but IMHO should not be dependent on capacity controls for the super saver seats.
