Just wondering how the dining discounts work when we visit a restaurant as a group of six (my family of 4 being members and my parents coming along as guests.) Are they eligible for the discount as well because they're staying with us? Does everyone's meal have to be on the same check?

Thanks for anything you can tell me,

Deb

When we "dined" at Rainforest Cafe, the two lowest priced entrees got the discount, while the rest of the bill was full price. But then, even with a better discount, I don't think we'll ever be back there: tho the portions are generous (one serving enough to serve an entire Ethiopian village) the food was indifferent at best. I would put the "food" in the same category with Play-Doh and crayons, as merely non-toxic. We'll be bringing lunch with us or stopping at Tusker House or Flame Tree from now on when in AK.

We've always received trhe discount for all at our table. If your parents are staying at the resort with you, they will also have "Member" on their room ID and will be eligible for the discount even if they are on a 2nd check. Otherwise, it shoudln't matter- all member's of the group should get the discount.

Enjoy!

I could be wrong, but I know that we've had to actually show our DVC card when getting the discount - not just the room key. Have had to every time we've used it. I'm not sure if the discount applies to a certain number of people or not, you'd have ask member services or disney dining, but I wouldn't count on someone being able to show their room key (if they aren't members) and get the discount.

You will receive a list of all current discounts when you check-in. The room ID (with "DVC Member" imprinted) will be accepted for all of those listings. If there are any restrictions for the discounts, they will be noted on that same list. I rarely carry my DVC card with me and have always received the discount for all members of my group with just my room id. I have never been asked for the member card.

Your DVC member card will not work for pool hopping (only the room id is accepted for that), but either will be accepted for free valet service at DVC resorts.

Enjoy!

If they required the member card and the resort ID with Member on it, they were in the wrong.

That's actually been the case for us at every restaurant where we used the discount. It makes sense to me since not everyone who stays on points is a DVC member and I was always under the assumption that the DVC privileges only applied to the actual members although it is seldom enforced. But we've been told by several restaurants that we have to have the DVC card. Its fine by me!

.. you can use either card. Going to disneyvacationclub.com (the member area), under member news / special member offers, I read the following text:

------------

"To take advantage of these great discounts, you must present either your Disney Vacation Club Member card or your Walt Disney World® Resort ID card (with your "DVC Member" designation on it) at the location. When paying for purchases with your Disney's Visa® Card from Bank One, you must also present your Member Card at the time of purchase to receive any available Member perks."

The paperwork states that guests are entitled to the benefits, with the couple of exceptions, but not renters. I've never had anyone even mention the DVC card itself over the resort ID.

I was told at the front desk of the BWV's anyone staying using points gets a room card that says "DVC Member".

You will also be given a welcome home packet with discount offers, DVC news etc. and just need to show room key to get the discounts...worked at Cape May's-Clam Bake earlier this month.
