Hi all,

I am an Australian who is looking to travel to Disneyland this november for 7 days, maybe a day at Universal as well.

Are there any members who live near Disneyland, who would not mind a house guest for the week. Happy to provide compensation for the service of course, think of it as like Airbnb but specifically for Disney.

Thanks

Luke

I don't live anywhere near Disneyland. I'm afraid that you might not get many replies because this sort of thing is usually not a good idea just from a personal safety perspective. On the other hand, if I lived near Disneyland and you and I were good mates and got along well, then sure...you would be very welcome.

Think of it this way...if this was your brother, sister, mom, or dad, would you recommend that they take in a house guest for several days when they don't know the person at all?

I would highly recommend getting a hotel room within walking distance of the parks. We have stayed at the Best Western Plus Pavilions and the rooms are VERY clean and it includes free grab and go breakfast and the walk to the DL bag check is about 10 minutes.

look online for house share etc near Disneyland if thats the route you want to go..
As an Aussie who has lived in the US for the last 12 years.. Yankies arent as trusting as Aussies.. and while they may "love" you mate.. they wont let you stay in their house.. not to start a screaming match. and not saying ALL have this point of view.. just telling it as it is.. specially as of late ... hope you find somewhere to stay..

I'm a Yankie and I would say that this is an accurate statement. One's chances of getting a free place to stay are slim to none. For most Americans, they would want to meet you at least a few times in a safe and neutral location, get to know you more, and then once you become better friends, THEN sure, you can crash on our couch or in the spare bedroom for a week...no sweat.

For me, personally, until I've figured out whether or not you are trustworthy, for all I know, you could be a child molester or you could have a scam going on in order to steal from my family, or you could be a crazy psychopathic ax murderer.

On the flip side, the average American would not ask a person they don't know to stay with them in their home for a few days for those very same reasons.

Have you looked at hostels? There are quite a few around LA, although not as many near Anaheim.

This is interesting. My husband was trying to talk me into staying in a place listed on Airbnb near Disney in November. It was a private room in a shared house. I said no. I'd never feel comfortable staying with a complete stranger. But, I can say that there rentals available for those that are interested.

I have not heard of couchsurfing before, might check it out.

Airbnb is a joke, everyone who is near disneyland wants almost as much as a hotel per night. It was just a thought, a crazy thought though

From one Aussie to another, you can find hotels close to Disneyland for $50 per night, sometimes less. Surely you would be giving your hosts at least that much for letting you use their spare room.
Honestly, it would hardly be worth it. Just get a hotel for the same price.

Renderman7, as aussiegirls suggested, there are cheap hotels near Disneyland. We went to Halloween Time two years ago and got rooms at Alpine Inn (shares a fence line with Carsland in DCA) and it was $65 a night. I know that our dollar isn't strong right now, but most of the Yankies that I know would be up for a guest they don't know. Sorry about that, Mate.

This attitude is not specifically to American's, I'm an Aussie and there is now way I would be offering up a room in my house to a complete stranger whether they are from Australia or from overseas!

I've stayed at Motel 6 across the street for $49/night and to be honest, it's a pretty decent option, especially for someone who doesn't mind couchsurfing. Obviously, the price could be higher depending on when you wanted to visit, but it is usually always under a 100/night including taxes.

You can also use coupon code CP545855 for an extra 10% off.

Also try VRBO but a hotel room would be cheaper. Or "camp" at one of the RV parks. As an North American who has couch surfed through Australia, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe, I've noticed us North American's are a bit more cautious when opening up our homes to a stranger.

Obviously an Aussie girl going in sept and paying just under $100 a night at motel 6... Be able to give u an update in late September but looks close to the park and means more spending money over there :)

Call me crazy but I am fascinated by this thread.

I never knew that it was an Aussie thing to stay with strangers. Interesting!

Have you tried priceline? There is a forum called betterbidding.com that will give you an idea of the deals you can get and how to get them. There are several deals at the Holiday Inn Anaheim for around $50 that folks have been able to get recently. Also Ayres Hotel for about $70 and with that they got free breakfast and an evening reception through the week- (free food!! lol). Not sure how priceline works for Aussies but worth a try!

Aprincessatlast, we are not all like that. Trust me. Speaking as an Aussie, it is most definitely not an Aussie thing to stay with strangers........nor to be so cheap as to ask for a free bed!!!
