I'm fairly new to DVC, becoming a member in Jan, 2006. I have become educated with DVC by reading these posts, so here's the problem. Before this new rule was announced, (I say new because our paperwork does not state a limit, only that you can't both transfer and receive points during any given Use Year) all the posts stated that to be used for Home Resort Advantage, the points transferred in must be from the same Resort as yours. If it was from a different Resort, you could not combine them with your Resort to make a reservation before the 7 month window. In fact, it was posted many times that if they were from the same resort, you would have to ask MS to manually tract them so they could be used to make a reservation during your Home Resort advantage period.
Now fast forward to when everyone was posting about the new rule or enforcing the old rule, and that transfers would be limited to once per Use Year. All of a sudden there were several posts about how people had been transferring points into a certain Resort, and these points from other Resorts had suddenly morphed into the Home Resort points. I hadn't read anything about this before, and in fact it seemed just the opposite, that a member would have to request proof that these points could indeed be used to make a reservation before the 7 month window if they were transferred from a member having the same Resort as theirs.
So I'm wondering, do the members talking about points morphing, do they have first hand experience with this? Or is this a guess?
If this is true about transferred points taking on the Home Resort, won't there be a lot of members who will use their one transfer to try this out? Especially if the members owned at more than one Resort. It seems to me that by "letting the cat out of the bag" on this, there could potentially be a greater impact on our reservations, than those of the large DVC for profit members.
