Question on tipping?

We just returned form our stay at VWL, we used Tiffany Town Car service and it was great. We stopped for groceries on the way and we were dropped off in front. We were early, around 1:30, and thought our room would not be ready. We tipped the Bellman outside who unloaded the car and put our luggage and groceries on a cart. He gave us a claim check for our things and said when our room is ready, call and they will deliver our things. We went inside to check in and to our surprise, our room was ready. We went right upstairs to our room and called for our luggage, a different Bellman brought our things upstairs to our room. We again tipped him. The same thing happened when we checked out later in the week. Check out was at 11:00am, so a Bellman came and took our things and gave us a claim check. We tipped him. We weren't being picked up until 1:45pm by Tiffany so the hotel stored our luggage. Later, when we were picked up, a different Bellman retrieved our things and loaded the car for us. We again tipped him. Our question is has this happened to others and should we have tipped all four times? Each Bellman lingered about "waiting" for a tip.

Yes, we always do the same thing and tip all 4 bellman. If you switch resorts in between stays that is 4 more bellman. I think between, bellman, mousekeeping, towncar service, luggage handler at the airport, and waitresses, I spend just as much on tipping as I do on my room! (Well almost)

I always tip the bellman (valet?) who takes the luggage out of the car and the one who brings it to the room. We always have a car and when we stay at BWV, I call the valet at the same time as the bellman when we check-out. So the bellman takes the luggage down and puts it straight into the trunk. I then tip the valet also.

When we stayed at CBR a few years ago, we used TTC and I went to tip the person who took the luggage out of the trunk and put it on a cart and he refused! He said give to the bellman who delivers them to the room. Wow! Only time that ever happened! When staying at deluxe resorts, the bellman usually uses the line "this will be the last time you see me", i.e. I willn't be the one who delivers it to your room, so tip me now.

If I am not mistaken, the bellmen "pool" the tips.
