I'm looking for the answer on irs.gov but I thought I'd ask here, too.
We live in Florida where there is no state income tax. We can deduct sales tax.
Does this mean I enter the total amount of sales tax we paid on everything this year. I saved all of our receipts. Or, are there only certain items that I can deduct the sales tax on?
Also, we are taxed on some of our utility bills. I assume that counts toward the total sales tax paid.
Thanks in advance.
TurboTax put in an amount for the sales tax deduction but then I went back and put my own total in (you have the option of figuring it yourself) and my figure was larger than what TurboTax had.
