My husband will be retired from the government (military ) when we plan on staying at the Swan. Will he qualify for the "government" discount which is on the Swan reservation page? This is not the military/teacher/nurse discount that I am questioning. It is the discount that shows up on the Swandolphin reservation page. The advantage of it is that it can be booked now for next December while the DreamsUnlimited can only be booked through August. Just not sure if retired military counts as"government employee." Maybe Mr. Swandolphin can help answer? Thanks.

I can't answer your question about the S/D rates but I think your husband would qualify for the Shades of Green rates which are cheaper. I think this rate is being offered for the Contemporary since the military resort is being renovated. I looked into this one time for ourselves a while ago and we didn't qualify because my husband only served for 8 years and got out voluntarily rather than retiring after 20. Their Web site is:
http://www.armymwr.com/shades/index.html

If you really want the S/D, I would give them a call. It's 1-800-828-8850.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Joanne........... we have stayed at Shades of Green several times and we love it and the price. We however are planning on going right after Christmas and Shades of Green apparently only does packages during that week which we are not interested in so I was exploring other options. The Swan was offering rooms on their website for a government rate of $149.00 for the timeframe we are interested in. Just not sure if retired government qualifies. Thanks for your response.

The key here might be....

1. Do you still have an ID card for the government?
2. Insurance card listing gov't insurance?

You get the idea....if you are still receiving the benefits of the gov't employment, you should be in good shape yet.

Thanks again for the responses.... I called the Swan and was told that if my husband had an ID indicating that he was retired federal government (military) then the discount would apply. I was able to get a $149.00 rate for December 27th to the 30th of 2004. It's not as cheap as SOG but I think we will enjoy the location of the Swan as we spend most of out time at Epcot and MGM. :Pinkbounc Have to read up on the Swan now!

Yeah! You're going to love the Swan!

Happy Planning,
Debbie
