I've been looking at the points chart and as I've read Friday & Saturdays are double the points. So I've read some posts that mention booking Sunday - Thursday by renting points and then trying to book the weekends (same accomadations and same resort) through CRO. My question is we checkout on Friday morning and checkin Friday afternoon is it possible to just stay in the same room and skip all the moving the luggage etc.? If we'd have to pack up and move our luggage we may as well try a new resort. I guess we'll have to figure that one out.

This has nothing to do w/my question above but I've researched a lot on renting points and I must say it would be a wonderful solution for our family of 5. Otherwise I think we'd have to stay off site which I am looking into just in case. There are some beautiful vacation homes for rent through All Star Vacation Homes and other agencies of course but they are not disney.

Unfortunately it would be considered two reservations so you may have to check out and then check back in. So the possibilty to keep the same room is fairly remote but possible. As far as doing cash on the weekend, well DVC owners get a discount off rack rate so sometimes it makes sense to pay cash for some of the nights. In your case you may be paying full boat plus room tax. Depending on where you stay that could be a large amount per night, example $500+ for a one bedroom maybe? Points still may be a better option for you....just do the math both ways and see what your villa will cost if you pay cash over the weekend. Good Luck....:teacher:

You would most likely need to change rooms when booking through DVC and booking the next leg through CRO. These can only be linked when a DVC member books through MS for both cash and points, but the DVC member must be staying in the room in order to receive the DVC Member cash discount.

At the very least, you would need to check out and then check back in at the desk. You could make the request at check in to remain in the same room if possible. This depends, of course, upon requesting the same villa size and category in the DVC resort at time of booking.

Thanks for the info. We'd have to have a 2 bedroom villa as we're a family of 5. I know some of the 1 bedrooms at AKV fit 5 which is a possiblity but the AKV just doesn't scream out at me - strange I know. We're a family of animal lovers too - I think because the rooms looks so dark. We stayed at the Poly in October and that was my only complaint.

It probably would be less expensive to book a deluxe std room for the weekend but I will certainly run some figures. We wouldn't be going until May 09 so I have lots of time. Its nice to do all this research on a snowy winters day.;) DH really likes WL (dark as well) & I am really intrigued by BW so I'm not sure which we'd choose but it looks like the points are the same. And of course BC isn't too shabby. :goodvibes

The only point differences I can see is for OKW & SSR. Thanks for the info.

Happy Holidays,
Joanne

OKW will get you more room for less points, and will likely be more economical for the whole trip as well.

DVC will allow 5 in a 1 bedroom as long as the fifth is a young child. Of course they will not give you a cot or extra sheets. Some just bring a little inflateable bed with sheets to put on the floor. With a 2 year old a two bedroom maybe over kill......Consider renting, its a great way to stay on site for a pretty fair amount of $$..

While DVC (or CRO) will not guarantee that you can stay in the same room, you can make that as a request and provide the reservation numbers to both CRO and DVC and they will make note of it on both reservations. You should also additionally make the request at check-in.

Most likely you will still need to check-in for the cash reservation portion, but will not have to move out of the room. I know of lots of cases where this has been done without issue. No guarantees, but good posssibility.

Good luck with your decision! :)

Thanks for the info. I neglected to mention when we go in 2009 DD2 will be turning 4 during our vacation so thats why we're looking at a 2 bedroom. It is a lot of space for 5 of us so perhaps we'll just do a regular room at a deluxe and save the villas for when the kiddos are older. We'll see how it all works out. I would love the amenities that come w/the villas. I overpacked in October when we stayed at the poly because I didn't want to do laundry so it would be great to be able to pack less and cut down on all the heavy suitcases.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely do this if we decide to rent points. I think it would be easier for the resort as well. Thanks again - we'll see what happens in the next few months as to what we can do.
