question on renting a car once on land again?

After our cruise, we plan to rent a car and spend a few days in WDW. Most car rental companies are 3-7 miles away from Port , so will the shuttles from Avis, etc. be there to take us to the rental company?
Also, has anyone used Avis and dropped the car back at the Hilton Hotel in Downtown Disney? How convenient is this? And how do you then get to your hotel if it is not in the Downtown area, (mine is the WL)?

Yes, Avis, Budget, and Hertz all have shuttles to their Cape Canaveral locations.

From the Hilton you can walk to Downtown Disney and then catch a bus back to WL.
