Question on redeeming Disney visa dollars...

Hi Not sure where to post this so picked this board. Hope it's okay. I know I've read this before but couldn't find where I thought I saw a whole thread on this. Anyway, we are going down Sat to disney. I want to redeem my rewards and remember reading I could go to the, this is bad, can't think of the name right now, but in each park the customer service place. It's late and I can't think right now, sorry! But, I was wondering do I just take all my reward dollars I have(about 640.)? Any real drawbacks to doing that? Or do I just take some? They are good until 2013 I think. We go Sat. morning and now I'm starting to panic as I'm sort of behind in getting ready, lol! Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I wouldn't redeem $640 dollars all at once. I couldn't spend that much on one trip, but we are all different. I would have used those reward dollars to pay for my trip.

Once you get your reward dollars you have to the end of 2010 in your case to redeem them or lose them. You can buy some things through internet with them.

You can always add more dollars a second time if you need to do it there. You may have to plan a little more in your purchasing if you need to do it again.

I'm not sure about where to redeem your reward dollars once you are at Disney person to person. I believe you are right that it can be done, but I thought it only could be done at guest relations in Downtown Disney (maybe?). I'm not aware it can be done at the parks, but I really don't know.

I've read you can get the card at Guest Relations at any park or DTD. I just called and had $10 (we don't leave until the beginning of Feb) put on a card. I just really wanted to have the card prior to going so I don't have to bother getting one. Like the previous poster said, I wouldn't redeem any more than I had to since once on a card, the dollars do expire the end of 2010. Your amount is a high amount so unless you're using it for some big purchases, just wait on transferring all of them. Once you have the card, it doesn't take long to have them transferred. Just what I would do. Have a nice trip to WDW.

I only put $200.00 on my rewards card before our trip. When we spent the amount on the card, I used my cell phone and called Chase. I told them the amount I wanted transferred and it was done instantly!!! I walked into a store and used my card 5 minutes later. I don't think I would transfer it all at once since it is so easy to transfer the reward dollars.

Your reward points expire in 2013, but once they are transferred to the rewards card they will expire at the end of 2010 (or 2011 depending on when you transfer them). They cannot be taken off the card and returned to 2013 status, so just transfer what you know you will use, or a small amount that can be added to later.

When you go to the guest services place to get your card, it will show the expiration date of the card.

As others have said, any points transferred to the card, will expire on that date.

I would also not transfer all the dollars at once. Transfer an amount that you know you will use and then just transfer more as you are on the trip.

Okay, guest relations, that's what I couldn't think of when writing, lol, just totally blanked on that. Anyway, yeah, I thought you could do it at Guest Relations at any of the parks. I'm glad you all reminded me why I shouldn't do all the reward dollars at one time! I knew there was something niggling at the back of my mind but couldn't think of why that wasn't good idea. Didn't remember that they expire at end of year. My card expires 5/10 so I guess they'd expire then. That would be terrible. I was going to ask about just doing them as I go along, just starting with what I'd need as we go so I'm glad you all suggested that! This will be my first time redeeming dollars. I would like to have paid for my dining with them but had to pay that right away when we added dining plan a couple days ago and obviously I didn't have them redeemed yet. I plan on using them now to pay for whatever we buy in souveniers and tips on our dining plan. I figured I could pay as we go, or if we charge to the room we can pay at the end when we check out. If I charge to the room, can I go down and pay that with the rewards at the end? Argh, I didn't think I'd be so confused when it came time to use these, lol!
