we were told we must use the 7 mo window for these and of course they are only good there. what if there is no availability for the only week we can go in 2009, do we just lose them?

I would think you could waitlist for the week you need, couldn't you? Given the size of SSR, I'd be sorta surprized if your waitlist didn't come through but you didn't tell us what week you were thinking about. Busy parks? Busy DVC time?

As I understand it, my developer points expire at day 364 after they were issued. Period, was my understanding.

You can't waitlist with developer points.

I know they expire after 364 days no matter what...Good luck!

These being the situations at hand, I'd call every day I had the opportunity just as soon as MS opens.

If worse comes to worse, you could book a week and rent it out. :confused3

7 month window...what is that?

My developer points at AKV must be used within 1 yr from date of contract..
Trip must be completed by date of contract.

Also, our developer points can be used through Interval International..if you use through Interval International, in essense you get 1 additional yr.

Our developer points are good at SSR and at 3 Disneyland Hotels..
Yes, we can only book developer points at SSR and 3 Disneyland Hotels 7 mos in advance of use.

Good Luck planning!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

look at my question again, i understand what you are saying, the issue is i only have one particular week i can go in 2009, what if there is no availability that week, do i lose the developer points even though it would be them not accommadating me.

If there is absolutely no availability for that time, then you can rent the points to someone who can go at another time.

Due respect, why don't you CALL MS FIRST and see? Granted, I misread your question the first time and assumed you had already tried to book. Now that I've re-read it, I'm wondering what all the fuss is about. :confused3

SSR's a HUGE resort. I think you're really jumping to conclusions to assume nothing will be available there at 7 months out.

Find out first. Then develop a contingency plan only if necessary. :)

The answer to the question you insist on having an answer to is "use it or lose it". That's the way DP's work. This has been noted throughout this thread. There are several other ways to work this. Why don't you see if you even need to first?

The other answer you seem to want an answer to is that DVC is not required to accomodate you on any particular week. You didn't buy a specific week at a specific resort (same applies to DP's). You purchased the right to use your accumulated points during your UY. Working it out in your schedule is not DVD's problem. Sorry. I know that's not what you wanted to hear but that's the way it is. It's the way DVC works.

I have to say that if there's only one week you can go during the time before your developer points expire in 2009, maybe DVC wasn't right for you. DVC affords you a lot of flexability but you have to be able to control your time to a certain extent. One week a year to take vacation is a pretty stiff constrainment.

DVC gives you one year to use the points. They do not guarantee that you will be able to use the points during any particular week. They will not extend the deadline if you are unable to book the only week within that year that you can go, though I doubt you will have a problem getting something at SSR in August. At the end of that 1-year period, any unused points will be lost.

The same holds true for your "regular" points. You have a year to use them (two years if you bank them) but if you are unable to use them during that time, you lose them.

Yes you would lose them and all DVC units are based on availability and DVC is giving you a year to use those points I don't see how they aren't being accomodating it is your inflexibility that is the issue.

I never heard this restriction. Is this true? Why can't you waitlist with them?

Yes it is true, I wouldn't post information that is false. If you have developer points you might want to look at the paperwork defining them that you signed, it is actually in a bolded section and states developer points may not be used for waitlists and is at the end of the page.
