Hi all! We are experienced WDW vacationers, but new to DVC (bought 12/31/07!). So, I have a question about changing an existing reservation at the 7 month window.

We have a ressie at SSR first week in December. :santa: We have not yet stayed at SSR, but we will be checking it out for the first time in April. I am sure we will LOVE it, but we already know that we love BC and AKL (stayed both places). If I want to call at the 7 month window to switch to either BCV or AKV (or maybe even do a split stay between both resorts), I know that I have to cancel my SSR reservation to make the new one. Here is my question - do I still call day by day to book the new ressie at BCV/AKV? If so, does that mean that MS will just cancel my SSR reservation one night at a time? Or, do they have to cancel my SSR reservation all at once? We do have enough points to book most of the nights at the 7 month window without cancelling SSR, but we will need to cancel the last few nights at SSR to have enough points in total. If there is a chance that I could lose my reservation completely and then not get any at all, I will just keep my SSR reservation.

I hope this made sense to someone! Thanks in advance for all of your help!

I will be going through this process for my 1st time on feb 22, but here is how i understand all of this:

let's say your vacation is reserved at ssr on dec 1-dec 8.

~~ call ms on may 2nd (because it is 7 months out from your 1st checkout date of dec 2nd)

--after you hang up from this phone call, you will have 1 nite (dec 1st) at AKV and 6 nites at ssr (dec 2nd-dec 8th)

you will have continue this process every day through may 9th OR if you want to do a split stay you could do this process for the 1st few days of your resie or the last few days :)

I really have to ask you this question though: You said that you became a DVC member on dec 31, 2007 (CONGRATULATIONS BTW :cool1: ) and you said that you love AKL.....so why isn't AKLV your home resort????

Thank you! That is very helpful!!

We bought SSR because it was bigger (more chance of getting ressies at 11 mos window including Grand Villas), close to DTD, which we do enjoy, and it really looks beautiful! We will probably only stay at AKV once in a while as a change of pace. We actually LOVE BCV, but we bought SSR for all of the bonuses they were offering. We are already contemplating an add on for BCV....I think it is a sickness!

What I would do is on the first day ask what availability looks like for the entire time. You don't want to end up with some nights not being available and have to move back and forth. If there are some nights not available, I would wait until 7 months from your checkout day and waitlist for the entire time.

you would waitlist for the entire week? do waitlists usually pull through?

here is what we are going to do on feb 22nd: we have a 2bdrm & a studio reserved at AKV for sept 21-28. I am going to call on feb 22nd & ask ms if there is a 2bdrm & a studio available for the entire week before i begin calling every morning. If there is, i will begin the everyday call process. if i get to the 4th nite & bcv is not available, i will leave the resie the way it is & we will split our stay. 1st half at bcv, 2nd half at akv. thing is, i don't want to change resorts on our 2nd to last day of our stay. if this happens, i will call on feb 29th & try to get bwv. if all of these plans fall through, i will probably just reserve at okw (maybe a grand villa). i'm kind of scared about going on a waiting list because there are so many ppl who are going & i'm affraid that we will be left with no where to stay.

Sounds like a good plan if you don't mind a split stay. The original poster sounded like they wanted to stay in 1 place. My worry is that you start moving the nights and then some are not available.

I just did what you will be trying to do. I also had enough points to cover the new reservation. Ask the CM to use your points available, this will start a new reservation.. Once they have the new reservation started, they will cancel the day you booked on the excisting reservation. They will continue that each day, adding one day to the new then deleting a day on the old. Each day they will put those points back into your account. I believe they will note this on your reservation because every day after my first the CM knew what I was doing without me explaining it. It was very easy after I explained what I was doing on the first day and I called each day right at 9am EST.
