Has this ever happened to anyone? Here is my situation...I have a 2 bdrm lockoff booked at BLT for seven of us.....6 adults and 1 child. However there is a possibility 2 or 3 of the adults(two my kids and one boyfriend.....school and not sure about job vacations) will not be able to go......a slight possibility but nonetheless....... Since I would rather be sure we have the room I booked a 2 bdrm lockoff.....thinking if need be I can just cancel the studio portion, well before 31 days out ....our stay isn't until January and I will know definitely by mid October at the latest. However, when I asked the CM who took the reservation about the possibility ...her response was "Well, you could do that.......if there is availability at that time."
That was my reasoning for booking a lock-off.....in the event I don't need both portions.....I still have the 1 bdrm booked. Has anyone done this in the past and were there any problems? I know my points will be OK because we will be traveling again in May and I won't even make that ressie until early November at the earliest, but, I'm worried now that if I do need to cancel I will lose the entire ressie and not be able to cancel just the studio portion. Initially, I thought about booking two separate reservations ... it would have been more points.....I know if I need to change the ressie to a 1 bdrm the points will need to be adjusted....I just want to be sure we will have accommodations at BLT. If I had booked a separate 1 bdrm and a studio no guarantee we would be nearby.......I could request that, but, it wouldn't be guaranteed.....we did that one time at VWL and ended up with a 2 bdrm dedicated at one end of hall and a studio at the other end.....which was not ideal since we were sharing the kitchen, but, it worked .....at least we were on the same floor.

The problem you have here is that you do not have a Studio and a 1BR - you have reserved a 2BR and cannot just "cancel" the 2nd BR. If there is availability for a 1BR, you could cancel the 2BR reservation you now have and just make a new reservation for a 1BR.

If there are no 1BR villas available you will not be able to cancel the 2nd BR and just keep the 1BR portion of the lockoff. If you cancel the 2BR reservation - thus freeing up a Studio and a 1BR - you may not be able to reserve the 1BR since it would go to the first member on the waitlist. If you had reserved this as two reservations (Studio and 1BR) you could have cancelled either and kept the other - but as you already noted that would have cost more points initially and there would have been no guarantee that the two would be connected to allow a lockoff 2BR.

I'd call MS and check availability for the 1BR before doing anything else.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the quick response, Doc. I will certainly call MS first thing in the AM and try to change it to a studio and 1 bdrm with the request they be near each other.......hopefully, there is availability for both. If not, hopefully I can still get something at VWL since that is where we usually stay for our January trip........I never had these problems when the kids were younger!!!

If you have enough points the better choice is to book a 1 BR and a 2 BR assuming those are your 2 preferred choices. That way you don't have to pay the higher points and risk of separation of having the separate units.

Thanks Dean........I do have enough points to book both, however, don't really want to do that since then I would be borrowing more than I would like to.....in the event of needing to cancel the 2 bdrm I would then have too many borrowed points I would need to use before the end of my use year.

Another possiblity is to just forget about it and keep the larger accomodations. More room for fewer people may mean a more relaxing, enjoyable trip. We give our DS a two bedroom for the 5 of them 2 adults, 3 children when we can, pointwise. In fact, I would try to move that accomodation to a dedicated 2 bedroom for the extra real bed.

I agree bobbiwoz.....and depending on availability when I call BLT this morning....I may end up doing just that. However, I think I will leave it at the lockoff......since anyone staying in the studio portion would be young adults and they would have a bit more ability to come and go through the hall access if need be.

I'd keep the 2 bedroom even if the others do not come and just enjoy the extra room.

Thanks for the responses everyone......I spoke with MS this morning and there is availability for a 1 bdrm, but, no studio for our first and last nights. So, after some consideration as to whether to switch to VWL (there is availability of both 1 bdrm and studios for all nights) or keep the reservation at BLT for the 2 bdrm lockoff, we've decided to stay with BLT in the 2 bdrm for this trip......our 20 yr old DS and DH have been patiently waiting for BLT to open so even if there are only four of us....it will be worth it.

Don't do it by borrowing points you wouldn't borrow otherwise. Even if you have enough points to reserve a few days in the second unit it could improve your chances.
