I know... another question on banking points, right? :)

Ok. Here's the scenario. Prob an easy one, but I'm a bit obtuse at times.

If I banked all of this year's points for the next UY, would I be able to continue banking points every year so that I can always have a # greater than my actual yearly allocation?

That is to say, is something like this possible?

UY....Points..Total..Room...............Used...Remainder / Banked
2010..300.....300....n/a...................0..................300
2011..300.....600....BLT OB / MKV........471..................129
2012..300.....429....2 AKV Studio / Std..232..................197
2013..300.....497....AKV OB / Std........251..................246
2014..300.....546....BCV OB / Std........350..................196
2015..300.....496....AKV OB / Sav........355..................141
2016..300.....441....BLT OB / Std........348...................93
2017..300.....393....BWV OB / Std........284..................109
2018..300.....409....3 AKV Studio / Std..348...................61
2019..300.....361....etc…

Idea being that every 2 years or so we do something special like BLT OB w/MKV or AKV OB w/Sav views.

Thanks! :goodvibes

It really depends on how many points you use each year. If you use less than your banked points + your current use year points in a year, then you would always have the remaining balance of your current use year points to bank for the next use year (provided they are banked by the banking deadline). If however, you use all of your banked points + current use year points, then you would not have any left over in that use year to bank for the next use year.

Don't forget that you would have the option to borrow points from the next use year if you are short in your current use year and need the extra points. However, that would obviously reduce your point level for the next use year which would also change your scenarios.

Wow! That was a tongue twister, I would continue to use numbers for your potential scenarios.

My understanding is that you have to use the banked points in the UY that you banked them example: UY December - so you bank your points for the UY 2010 (200 points) UY 2011 you have 400 points - the banked points are the first points you have to use if you do not use the full 200 points that you banked in UY 2011 you loose those points - they can not be banked again - so they can not be moved to 2012 - you can however bank your 200 points from UY 2011.

And a word of caution, MS doesn't always apply the banked points before they use the current points. You have to tell them what to do and make sure that they do it.

Yes, that works! As long as you travel each year with at least the number of banked points, you will be fine.

As Bill said, just make sure that MS knows to use the banked points first. We currently have an extra 62 for 2010 that will be banked into 2011. We figure this will give us the extra we need to cover some trips the next few years.

Howerver, know that one cannot bank points which have been previously banked or borrowed.
