I am looking at booking a cabin on a 4 night next spring (May). Was curious what the differences are (more motion, more noise, etc.) in booking an aft or forward room and was thinking of deck 8. Thanks, have cruised 5 times on Disney, but usually just booked mid section.

aft you MAY feel more vibration from screws and hear a bit more engine noise ... you're closer to the screws . . .

fore you MAY feel more motion, especially pitch <up and down> IF the sea conditions are less than optimal . . . when seas get ruff the bow can tend to ride up and down . . .

Bering Sea patrol ...... an E ticket ride!!!!!

Captain BJ has pretty much answered this question. I'd just add that overall, the further from the center of the ship, the more motion. That goes for fore/aft, port/starboard and high/low decks.

We usually love the aft BUT never, ever, EVER on the Fantasy! Worst cruise ever with all that horrible vibration. (We had an aft-facing verandah.)

On the classic ships we always do deck 5 forward. Our fav location. I get motion sickness easily and I've never had an issue in this location. We are trying the aft deck 7 this next cruise on the Fantasy. We like to be near the nightclubs so we are trying something new with aft. Hopefully I won't regret it.

Anywhere on the classic ships are fine with me....usually Deck 2 ocean views but the on the Dream and Fantasy I prefer forward locations. The distance between the mid-ship and forward elevators/stairs are much less than the distance between the mid and aft elevator/stairs. Aft always seems miles away on the big ships. I LOVE the forward corner cabins like 8504 which are 9D's but are HUGE!!!!!

Forward gets motion, and aft gets vibrations. Aft vibrations are usually temporary, but the Fantasy had severe aft vibration problems for years. I thought I read that it had been fixed, but I'm not sure.

Another factor in location is what you are closest to: forward is closer to the theater, adult pool and spa, aft is closer to dining and the kid's club.

Noise depends more on the floor you are on than forward/aft. If you are in a middle floor with staterooms above and below you, it's going to be quieter than a room directly above the theater or right under the pool deck.

Not necessarily. The nosiest room we've had onboard any ship was deck 9 on the Fantasy. The room(s) to one side of us were connecting and the kids in those rooms thought it was great fun to run laps through the opened verandah divider and the open connecting door. While the kids (at least I hope it was kids) in the room on the other side of us thought jumping off the bunk bed was the only way to get down. There was also a group of people (and I'm thinking they were adults) who seemed to thing the only way to get from the elevator to their rooms on the deck above was by running foot races. At any time of day or night.
