Question May VS August 2008

Hello everyone! I posted this on the resorts board so I'll try here. Our family me(36) DH (37) and two boys 7 & 9, are trying to decide on our next trip. We usually go the first week of May, but due to husband's job, and DS's MCAS schedule we won't make early May. Our other choice would be last week of May or August. Help us decide! Not crazy about going during Memorial weekend, the surcharges now on the buffets, or the possible crowds! BUT waiting until August seems so far off. August is value season right??? Maybe an upgrade would be worth the wait! Thanks!

Hello again! Still trying to decide on some dates. May23-28, May 25-30, May 26-31....OR August 17-23. Like I posted earlier, We've always gone the first week of May, but can't this year. I would like to get this in the planning stages, it's snowing here and I need something to get my mind off it!!

I posted on another thread that I've been a "lurker" since 1996, and I've finally got the nerve up to start posting. Hopefully I'll get some good suggestions! Thanks!

I would avoid August if possible, due to the really hot and humid weather. May is perfect in Florida. Pick any of those weeks in May and enjoy.

Aug 17 will not be terrible crowds, but it will still be a bit crowded (the following week gets really light crowds). In Aug., expect brutal heat and humidity and likely downpours in the afternoon, frequent thunderstorms from 3 on. We went this Aug and had a ball, but I would pick end of May over Aug--mainly b/c of the weather.

We went this past August, the 15th through the 22nd. We had never been with our kids at that time. Right up until we left we wondered if we were making a mistake taking 4 little boys, the youngest only 16 months old, to WDW in the Florida heat!

We quickly realized that it was not nearly as bad as we expected it to be!! Yes, it was hot! But it was totally doable. We planned our days to be in the parks early, leave to go back to the resort and nap, swim, then go back in the evening if we wanted to. We didn't do a lot of the rides that are outdoors, OR have long outdoor lines that you'd have to suffer in.

One day we were in MK and the PLAN was to leave the park by about 12Noon as usual, but we were having such a great day that we ended up staying until past the 3pm parade. It was brilliant sunshine and heat all day, but we had a terrific time!

Would we go again in mid-August? Absolutely!!

We went Memorial Day week this year (Friday before until Saturday after) and it wasn't nearly as crowded as I'd expected. It wasn't empty, but not bad. We didn't wait over 20 minutes for anything. It was hot, but not terribly hot. We'll go that week again, a lot of places are still in school at that time.

I know August would be fine, but I just can't wait all summer long for our trip! I think I'm leaning towards May. Now just have to decide which week. We usually go for 10 days at a Value, but we're looking at 5nights and upgrade the hotel. We will pull the boys out of school.

So now I need suggestions on which 6 days. May23-28/ May25-30/ May26-31.

We're NOT doing all the parks this time GASP! Only MK and AK. We've been so many times and the kids really want to spend more time swimming at the hotel. We will do the DDP, and a 3 day base ticket. Keep the ideas coming!

WEll i vote for August - i went in 06 we went i think the 27th - 09/5!

The crowds were VERY low - we got in on the free dining the weather was hot, but not unbearable - it rained a couple of days! while its a longer wait, its like your last blast of the summer

whatever you decide, enjoy your trip!

I agree with Lisaross about late August, we did that one year and it wasn't crowded at all. It's not an option for us anymore, my ds' school starts back around the 18th-20th.

We would be able to go longer in August. I know the heat can be bad but we are not going commando this trip. We usually do an 8 day ticket and hardly spend any time at the hotel. This trip WILL be different. Only a 3 day pass, and the rest will be resort time! No value this time, we're thinking of POR or WL. So 6nts/7days in August 17-23, or 5nts/6days in May 26-31.
We were watching the Food Network Disney Christmas show the other night and my boys were going nuts!

We went in August and like liznboys said it was HOT but as long as you planned for it (ie breaks in the afternoons) it was fine. We noticed a big difference in the crowd levels the third week as opposed to the second. I'm hoping for the third week again next year.

May is just not going to work! BOO HOO. August 17-23 will work for us this year. Thanks for everyone's opinions and replies! At least my older son won't "worry" about missing school. Strange child I know. We start back after Labor day, so the third week will be great. When will southwest open past May 9th?
