Trying to decide if we should just do the QSDP or the regular DP. I have a 12 year old that lives on chicken nuggets, hot dogs, etc. Can he still order off the child menu if he has an adult DDP? There isn't very much that he will eat off the adult menus at most of the Table service resturants so it will kind of be a waste of food if he has to order from the adult menu when he won't eat it.

We have a picky eater and we never had any trouble with him choosing something off of the kids menu while on the DDP. The CMs were always very accommodating and would just bring him an adult sized portion of whatever he ordered from the kids menu :thumbsup2.

Most Disney owned restaurants will allow a Disney Adult to ordera kid entree using an adult TS credit and they serve an adult portion of the kid entree. This way they're still getting a full sized drink and regular dessert since you're paying with an adult credit. Restaurants not owned by Disney are much less likely to do this. Also don't forget that restaurants are pretty accomodating of picky tastes and will leave off sauces and seasonings when asked.

You may find that buffets and fixed price meals will better suit your needs since he'll be free to grab whatever foods he likes. He'll have the option to take food off the kid section of buffets and he can even take the opportunity to try a couple more adventurous items without worrying since he'll have plenty of other food to eat if he doesn't like it.

We also have a picky eater and have never had a problem. We have experienced the same excellent service the others above have spoken about at the Garden Grill, 50's Prime Time (although we did get some hassel about this one though, all in good fun), and Coral Reef. We have never had trouble at regular restaurants. We do frequent buffets often but usually I feel like what was eaten does not equate to the $40 we spent on the buffet, we usually get our fill of chocolate milk there though :)

Is there a list of Disney owned verses private owned restaurants?

These restaurants are not operated by Disney:

All restaurants at Downtown Disney except: Cap'n Jacks and Food Quest (Food Quest is inside Disney Quest; Disney Quest admission is required). A number of the non-Disney restaurants at DTD do not accept the dining plan.

All restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin resorts (these restaurants do not accept the dining plan)

All restaurants at the Coronado Springs resort, with the possible exception of the pool snack bar

At Animal Kingdom: Rainforest Cafe and Yak & Yeti. Rainforest Cafe does not accept the dining plan.

All restaurants in the following Epcot World Showcase pavilions: Mexico, China, Italy, Japan, Morocco, France

On our last trip, DS had just turned 10 so was on the adult DP. We never had any issues with him ordering more kid-friendly fare. And, the best part, there were a couple of times that he ate a "real" meal!!!:cool1:

Oh thats great news! We have a 12, almost 13 yo and really all she wants to eat is Mac and Cheese in WDW. Or chicken tenders, fries, etc.
At a TS place, are you saying that they would still allow her to have Mac and Cheese (or something like that), only as a bigger portion?
We figured if that doesnt work, we will just order her adult meal and give it to my 9yo who IS more adventurous and have my 12yo eat the kid meal.
