It seemed like a lot of people at HHI this week were staying on cash, and were not members. I'm just curious how that works? How far in advance can a non-member (or a member) make a cash ressie?

I guess my real question is, can a non-member make a cash ressie far enough in advance to block a member from making a point ressie? It seems like this would be a busy time at HHI and I was surprised at the number of people we met that were not members at a relatively busy time.

Thanks for helping me understand!

No. There are separate inventories for cash and point reservations. Cash reservations are facilitated by points that DVC is holding. Those points primarily would come from HHI owners "trading-out" to other locations like the Disney Collection, Concierge Collection, etc. DVC is also probably sitting on some inventory of points from contracts that they have ROFR-ed. When they hold a contract, they turn the points into rooms, and those rooms are rented out on a cash basis.

It isn't until 60 days before check-in that cash customers have full access to any unreserved rooms. In this case, the cash rates paid actually go back into the resort budget, effectively reducing annual dues. These monies appear in the budget under the heading of "breakage."
