Question - How would you rather do DLP?

I'm sure if we lived closer, we'd do the off site too. Maybe I just need to relocate to Paris!

No don't do that - my Pirate has had to do that while we've stay here.....Disney is our meeting place (which is why I'm going such a lot) but Ashford is our home, and close enough as far as I'm concerned! Paris isnt all its cracked up to ve if you take away the tourist spots :-/
Just move down here as the travel options are fab ;)

We drove this year, its just too far for us - nearly 500 miles each way. Took us 2 days to get over the tiredness. And after our 'experience' of staying at the premiere classe, we're both put off going out of the Disney bubble again.

We use Premier Class hotels......basic and cheap, but its just a bed. Even if they did nick our towels *lol* What we save here gives us decent meals for four :)

oh but theres a huge range of hotels out there near DLP, Premiere Classe is very firmly in the budget end (I've stayed there in bussy st george, it was absolutely fine for one night but for me, not really my cup of tea for a whole trip).

I have a budget (on top of APs which I tend to expect to get at least 2 trips a year out of) of around £65 per room per night for DLP (one adult, one 12-year old). I've stayed at the Dream Castle and Explorers hotel for a lot less than that, and I've seen the Kyriad for less than that too, depending on the time of year. Its just a case of looking round and seeing whats out there :).

We have to travel at peak times as DH and I are both teachers. We used expedia to look at prices then trip advisor to look at reviews before we made our choice. We just got back yesterday from our stay at the Radishome Val D'Europe, and whilst the apartment was very small for 3 adults and 1 child, it was sufficient for our stay. We spent so much time in the park we literally went back to the room just to sleep. The apartment was 10 meters away from the RER station which was 3 minutes from the Disney gates. It was less walking than what we have done in the past to the Hotel New York!

We bought dream AP's too this trip and we always drive (it is exactly 7 hours from my house to the DLP parking lot including the wait time and the crossing at the tunnel) so short breaks at DLP seem to be the way forward for us now.

I love Disneyland Paris, but the cost has risen so much in recent years that I no longer feel like staying on site is good value for money, especially with the decrease in entertainment.

Having just spent £2600 or £3000 on our recent trip if you include travel and transfers I have to agree. We had a lovely time, but a lot of the good experiences of the trip came from outside the parks. I was so excited potentially 7 days of 15 hours park time and we barely spent 5 hours a day in the park and only on 5 of our 7 days. Some of this I can put down to us being an adult group but in all honesty there just wasn't enough to do and it didn't warrant the money spent.

I think I'll always prefer to be onsite but for future trips it will have to be a really good deal to entice me back. As I've sold my shares I'm thinking AP's are the way to go to get discounts and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Rive Gauche Serris apartments again. :)

I do like onsite in Winter, though this year we'll be off site in October and December but we know our room has good air conditioning so we're fine with that. October hours are 10pm so we wont have much time in the room, and December will be earlier, but we'll have the car and can drive elsewhere if needs be.
I'm loving the flexibility offsite offers, and last trip didn't even use the car once there, but I must admit, its the luggage thing that seems to be the pull. If I can load it in the car at point A and leave it at point B without having to cart it on and off the train (and to the hotel as I think DE is a complete waste of money) and leave after park closing, then the car is the best option. But staying onsite never involves the car, its Eurostar (though we're jumping on a coach on Wednesday to Paris next week as the car is already there with my Pirate) and not going anywhere else.....just discovered the delights of the supermarkets (cheaper than VdE) and can't entertain buying snacks in the parks now!

We usually do a bit of both - offsite on arrival and/or departure day and onsite in between, that way I don't feel that I am paying a lot for a short day in the parks. Our next trip is 2 nights at the Elysee, going to Paris for the day in between, the over to DLH first thing to check in, get tickets, 1 night/2 days there, then to the Kyriad before travelling home, so for 1 expensive night we are getting 2 full days in the park. This will probably be our last trip for a while so have splurged on the Castle Club so with the VIP fastpasses I think 2 days will be ok, its our 5th trip, we did WDW last year, are planning on DL next year and back to WDW in 2016, so perhaps a trip to DLP in 2015 for Ratatouille?
