We watched the Travel Channel special on DCL last night (it's embarrassing to say how many times we have seen it).

In the middle of the program, DH asked "Can you find out on the internet where in the ship the seam is?" I didn't understand at first, but he means where each half built in different shipyards came together. I told him I would see what I could find. Does anyone happen to know?

I did comment to him that it isn't like you're going to see a big zipper around the middle of the ship or anything. They did weld it together and smooth it over!!

I'm not sure where exactly the seam is but I do know that it is not in the middle! The ship was completed with 1/3 (the bow) at one shipyard and the other 2/3 (the stern) at the other. The book "Disney Magic--The Launching of a Dream" has some great pictures of the float-together but you can't really tell any landmarks to know the exact spot from the pictures. I guess that would be a great question for the captain on our next cruise!!

The seam is to the forward side of the atrium. We did a tour of the ship back in 2003 and the CM showed us where the seam was. We were up on deck 5 I think and we were on the forward side of the atrium. i.e. the atrium is one one side of the seam and the wall is on the other.

I had asked this exact question of a CM when we returned to the Magic in Costa Maya on our 9/27 cruise. The CM point out to me where the seam was and you could see it from the outside.

Ha ha ha...when we were watching the special, we commented that we hoped we didn't get the room with the seam!
